I know that there have been several responses to selecting names. I would say that it is OK to choose a clown name like "Popcorn" even if there are 100 other clowns named "Popcorn". But, it wouldn't be appropriate to name your clown, "Fiddlestix H. McWhiskers" if there was another clown by that name (famous or not). The more specific/unique the name, the more I would avoid using something similar.

As Saphire Sue said, it might be nice to be able to say, "Hi, I am Fiddlestix H. McWhiskers, but you can call me, 'Harry'."

Just a thought.
