Did you know that a very very very long time ago, people used to celebrate the new year on April 1st. They would exchange gifts and all that. When Gregorian Calendar was put in force, the New Year was celebrated in January. Those that didn't get the word (there was no e-mail then) were made fun of (called fools) and sent mock gifts on 1 April. Eventually the practice of playing jokes evolved. And that's how we ended up with April Fool's Day.
