Professional clown makeup works like theatrical makeup (because it is basically the same thing.) Also called greasepaint, the makeup does not dry like water based makeup does. It will stay tacky, so what you need to do is either use "setting powder" or plain
talc baby powder. A simple way to do that is to take a new child's sock and fill about half way with the talcum powder and tie shut. Apply your white base, pat until smooth, remove the white from where you are going to have other colors, then lightly pat all over with the powder sock. Now go back over your face pressing the powder into the makeup. The powder is absorbing the excess "oils" in the makeup and "setting" the makeup. gently feel the makeup on your face to see if any areas are still tacky, pay special attention to the areas around the eyes and the base of the nose. Repowder any areas still tacky. With a blush type brush remove the excess powder. You are now ready to apply your next color.
