My children probably wouldn't even notice this racist stereotyping if I didn't point it out, which I do. Children need to be aware that racism is alive and well, even in the 21st century so that they can be on the look-out for it and make sure it doesn't affect their own perceptions of different cultures.

You are precisely right, Pickles. You mentioned that you point it out to your children. Does that mean that you make sure that they know that it's just a stereotype and it doesn't really represent the communities they portray?
That's the felling that I get and if so, good on you. It's important for a parent to educate their children about how racism is all around them and that you shouldn't let stereotypes affect your perceptions.
