I speak in the higher end of my normal register, so it is a little higher, but not much. I agree with the other individulas that the characters traits should dictate what you do. Waldo is a carefree individual with child-like tendencies, so I want him to speak in a more child-like voice, but not squeeky and kill my vocal chords.
The kids will eventually figure out that it is you, though I technically keep my identity a secret. When they do find out then it becomes a game. They will say "you are the clown" and I respond "no your the clown". That banter can go along way.
