I think it is a matter of approach. Sometimes people are (rightly) proud of something about who they are (be it belief or nationality or whatever.) And so they wear it out on their sleeve. But that can be taken the wrong way by others as intimidating or merely off putting. No one ought to have to compromise who they are or what they are about. But hopefully it is offered in an attractive way as just a natural part of their being. As such, an invitation is naturally extended to which someone can respond or leave alone. As a Christian, I find that there is no necessary reason to make people feel in any sense pushed away or more distant from Christ. It is my personal hope that they can, simply, find me approachable and a path to closer communion.
The saying goes, "There is a time and place for everything." (Turn, turn, turn.) Sometimes we need to use wise discernment as to what the best time and place is for a best approach in a certain context.
