The facepainting stuff is a different story. Bubbles handles most of that, and I only play when she gets asked for a design she may not be familiar with. An adult recently asked to be made up like the lead singer of Kiss, so I had to help her out with that. I also do most of the superhero stuff, since I know what that looks like. I'll ask her what products she uses.
As far as the subtle colors, I think the key is in the dry application of the powders. They blend a bit, making everything look soft. It's particularly noticeable on the doggie and the orange tiger. The orange and yellow and white on the tiger all mix around the eyes, and that really makes the look.
