I haven't used these, I haven't used anything similar, and I don't know anybody who has used these.
That being said, I think one of the big problems with stencils is that they look like stencils - there's gaps between parts of the design necessary to hold the stencil together - unless the person is willing to paint those in by hand. And if you're willing to do that, you might as well not use the stencils.
My suggestion - worth every penny you paid for it - would be to develop a nice limited repetoire of paintings, and let the kids pick off of a menu. Not on the menu, not available.
