I am looking for a clown school to learn basic clowning. Make-up, costumes, tricks or balloon animals. This will be strictly for volunteer work. I live in the Tampa area, Florida. Is there such a place or would I be better off looking for a clown locally that could teach these things? If need be I could also try Collegville, Pa which is near Philly or Boston, Ma area. Any help welcome

The Northeast Clown Institute in Plymouth, MA has a Weekend program (20 hours) in January. It is very affordable, I think around $75-100 for the program, plus Hotel (around $50/nt.), food and travel.

I am thinking of going...maybe I'll see you there.

Check it out at www.clowninstitute.org

Have you heard about the Toby the Clown Foundation? I think he's located in Florida somewhere. I heard he's great at helping new clowns. His foundation has classes for clowns, and maybe even a big annual clown thing, too. I don't know what the website is, though.

And there's always the traveling Mooseburger camps. I read on their site that they are coming to Texas next. Maybe Florida will be on their list soon! I hope this helps!

In the Philly area once a yr. there is a fabulous educational convention called Clownfest. It's basically a long weekend in the middle of Sept., but tgey also have a few pre-days set aside for beginners; They get the absolutely best teachers from all over the country and the world. Priscilla Mooseburger is usually there every year, Leon "Buttons" McBride etc. etc. The guy who runs it is really dedicated to clowning education. Do a Google search with the name Clownfest for their website. I have gone for ten+ years and still always learn something new.
