So, its pretty easy to identify traditional magic . . . but just what makes Magic, Clown Magic?

Big? Colorful? Simple?

or is simply any magic performed by a clown, clown magic? haha ;)

although there are many magicians that use comedy in their acts, I see their magic as more straight forward.. you expect it to work, or to take you by surprise, but still have a some what expected out come.

For me clown magic is not a clown that does magic. The magic should work with you character, perhaps even not work out correctly only to have you volunteer be the one that does it correctly. Sally [my auguste clown] lives on the Funny Farm down in Silly Hallow over in Younder... so as I do my routine I tie into my life on the farm as much as possible.

It's ok if the trick doesn't work for clown magic ... just another way to generate laughter for your fumble.

It does not deal with the trick itself. It deals with how it is performed.

For the magician the audiance is the sucker. He is the "know it all".
For the clown, he is the sucker. The trick is on him. He leaves the audiance feeling they are the smart ones.

All of the above... Clown magic is all in the delivery, whether that means you are astonished as the clown that it worked or think you got it right when you didn't. i.e when I try to make my sponge balls dissappear I end up with 6 and announce that as had I got it right I would then move on to making bigger things dissappear (My clown partner Trouble) that I won't be trying it again as imagine ending up with 6 Troubles..and of course having the audience do what you can't therefore confirming that you are infact a clown.

I understand what you are saying. In general people will agree with you. Now when it comes to logic a true magician will entertain the audience. A trickster will do the above.

I would say that it's all about character and presentation. Fitting the magic into your unique style as a clown which makes it different. The magic is simply a tool, then, rather than the end in itself.

Most tradional Magicians are serious -non smiling Performers. Some perform with music, dance and elaborate costumes others with scantly clad assistants.

Clowns add what is known as Comic relief, colorful costumes with clashing colors trying to get more laughs than oohs and ahhs. Clowns can turn mistakes either intentional or unintentional into success. A Magician's mistake can end in failure.

Clowns smile more than Magicians.

What is the difference between a magician and God?
God doesn’t think he is a magician.

lets try an example to help those that might still be confused

cut and restored rope

magician cuts the rope ties it in a knot and wraps the rope around thier hand and reaches in for some wooofle dust and then poof the rope is restored

clown cuts the rope into several pieces throws them into a bag waves a rubber chicken over the bag and pulls it out as one piece however there is a safty pin a knot tied and other means to make it look together and while the rope is not restored exactly some magic did happen.

wow reading it is not as amusing as seeing that gag
