Hey everyone!

Our alley is working up an idea for the 4th of July parade to be a drill team. Props are going to be used, drills, and was wondering if anyone had any ideas on how to design a drill out of balloons?

i'VE BEEN THINKING ABOUT DOING THIS WITH OUR CLOWN GROUP.

Picture two clowns carrying a large banner that says. "Red cross Clown troupe precision drill team" Behind them march... however many clown we have, carrying large PVC contructed hand braces. (the big crank shaped hand drills) Doing baton type twirling manuvers...... Mabybe with a clown drum major leading the parade with a toilet plunger for a baton.

Just an Idea. Doc and Jasper, what think ye??
ANyone able to do any plastic casting? I've got the perfect thing to make the drill bit with. A spirial candle. I just think it would be too soft If I just used the wax.

Thats awesome Scruff, I like it! Not sure that I'm doing this with balloons since the topic in our Alley is scheduled for Monday next week....

I might just have to stop by Home Depot on Friday to get a few extra pieces and cut them to size....

Ohhh...I just thought about this as I'm typing....drill bits...

maybe have those at the ready? Or do some drill and call it a drill bit??

Couldn't you use foan noodles to make drill bits?

Foam noodles -- there's a prop-builder's dream!

They can be cut with an electric carving knife, and
also hot-glued together.

I've seen lots of creative items made from them.

I would think you could build a "brace and bits" pretty
easily from noodles.

Ashes,
You likely could use them. The ones I saw were made from PVC. A Bit could be made by taking a piece of PVC and some of the black foam insulation tape stuff. Just spiral it up the shaft and stop before you get to the Brace part.
I would like to cast the bits out of resin. They would look more authentic, and last longer.

That is an awesome idea DJ, I appreciate the input.

Just an update:

The Alley leader has made us a set of drills from PVC pipe with the similar design that Scruffy was talking about, and there is a metal bit in the end, but it has been blunted down to avoid sharpies. We are scheduled to do a practice run through of the drill run on Monday, but I will be out of town and will play catchup on the morning of the 4th.

Pictures WILL be takken by MRS. BIPS since BIPSY is also in the parade this year, so will have them posted shortly after...

If you can post a picture, please do. I'm still working on them. I'm looking for anyone who can cast the bits out of resin. If I could find auger bits cheap, I'd use them instead. I just can't come up with anything. The candles that I have found look great in the mock up, I just don't think they can hold up to constant handling......

.... They make great looking drill bits, though!
