I finally decided to post some pics of my facepainting. I would love your criticism... both good and bad.

I think they're all great. I really think you're very good. But since you asked - I need to work on my swirls to get a more refine line at so that it moves thin to thick instead of the same thickness. This might be one area you also might consider.

thanks for your honesty... that's what I'm looking for. Everyone likes to hear that they did a good job but I can only grow from criticism. I'll be sure to work more on my line work.

I think the designs look nice... Are you able to do them from memory or are you following pictures?

I agree with Saphire Sue... I need to work on my lines, and that was one of the thinks I saw with your designs. But, I don't think any child would have reason to complain.

I think they look really nice! I have never gotten good at face painting, but it looks like this may be your thing!

Oh, and I also love your name :) My daughter's name is Paislee :)

I'm a horrible face-painter, so my compliment probably doesn't mean as much as it would coming from some of the others. That said, WOW!!!! NICE WORK!!!!

For the most part I do them from memory.. with the exception of the monster face, but I do like to keep the pictures at hand when I'm painting just in case I draw a blank.

It looks like your brush of choice is either a #4 or a #6 round, which is a pretty good all around brush. I have found that for some of the final detail work I have better luck using a #1 or #2 with about 1/2 inch long bristles. Any shorter and I run out of paint too quickly, and longer and I loose some control.

Looks like you are doing a really good job on your base coverage and blending.

Yeah, most of my work is done with a #4. For some reason I have trouble using a #1. My lines end up all shakey and blobby, but I'll be sure to practiace with it some more.

Looks like you're off to a great start! I have to concur with the others when they say that your line work could use some work. But don't fret, that's where a lot of people have trouble; even advanced face panters have a mess-up every now and then on line work. I am impressed that as a beginner you are bothering to make accents such as highlights and accent dots. Many people don't do them, but I find it really adds to the overall look.

Back to line work; Truthfully, gaining a steady hand comes with lots and lots of practice. just sit down in front of the T.V. one day with your paints, your fine liner, and a cup of water (and plenty of baby wipes!) and just practice, practice, practice. Play with your paints and get a feel on how the paint flows on that fine liner, get a feel for how touchy it is on movement. Do this, and in no time at all you'll have outlines that look like a lifetime pro made them!

*helpful hint* I find that fine liners work well with slightly more water than other brushes. But that may just be me.

Great job! The tiger really looks fantastic. I don't know how long you have been painting but as long as you keep working on your stroke work you will continue to improve.
I would work on getting the right consistency of paint on your brush. From looking at some of the lines I can tell you were running out of paint. Try a little more water. Also remember to keep in mind focal points. Mark Reid taught me that. If you use the middle of a person's face right between their eyes as your guide and your lines at some point are heading towards there than the face will "flow" better and be more appealing to look at.
Again great job and keep up the great work!

Great job! I do agree with the line comment. You also have a good eye for color.

I have pictures for small kids and new designs I'm learning but I also have a written list of designs I give older kids of all ages. There is nothing better than the WOW you get when they see the end result because it's always better than their imagination pictured it.
