Hello there.

I saw the neat idea that another clown did at a class one time, and can't find my notes.... They actually produced a real cake in their chick/dove pan. I would like to try this, and was wondering if any of you clowns have done this?

If so... here are some questions I have....

1) Do you buy the cake or make them?
2) How do you get the cake out of the pan to leave with the child?

Any other tips would be great!

Thanks in advance! - "Sparkles" from FunWithSparkles.com

In the past, I have produced real cupcakes from chick pans. You do it the exact same way you'd produce a sponge cake -- have the kids mix all the ingredients (can use invisible eggs, butter etc. if you don't want to deal with the mess. I tend to use a combo of real and invisible ingredients). I gave the cupcake (baked in a cupcake paper) to a parent to give to the kid later. I've always baked the cupcakes in advance, but there's no reason why you couldn't buy them. I haven't used real cake in a long time -- It's much less of a hassle and less messy to use a fake sponge cake.

Thanks Pickles...cupcake is a good idea... how do you transport it and such?
a) Is it frosted?
b) Is it wrapped?
c) Do you transport it already in the dove pan?

Thanks for your help! :D

The correct answer is "C." Yeah, I frost it and put sprinkles on it (the same sprinkles that I'm going to have the kids put in the chick pan "mixing bowl"). Sometimes I even put candles on it. (Make sure you have the kids toss the same number of candles into the cake batter!) Just stick the cupcake in the chick pan before you leave for your gig. You might wanna check on it when you arrive to the party to make sure it hasn't shifted around in the pan during transport. Make sure you bake them in cupcake papers so you can handle the cupcake without actually touching the cake.

If you want to use a dove pan or something bigger than a chick pan, there's no reason why you can't make a bigger cake. I also put some silly ingredients into the batter, like magic pickle dust, and instead of "flour," I get confused and think I need to put "flowers" in the batter. I use the silk flowers from leis. I also dress up the birthday kid (who is my special baking assistant) in a chef's hat and apron. I use a wooden spoon with a happy face on it for the magic wand.
