Is it more difficult to juggle balls of different sizes and weights? I haven't tried yet. I ask because I would have to find some balls of different sizes to try it, and want to know if it is worth my while doing that at my skill level.

How different do you want the sizes and weights to be? I can juggle most any three objects roughly the size of a tennis ball. Minor weight differences don't really make a difference. I go to stores all of the time and pick up different balls to see how well they would work for juggling. Some stuff is too light and others are too big to easily hold when starting/stopping the pattern.

Now, if you take something like a bowling ball, soccer ball, and tennis ball, you would probably have something different. I don't really think I would want to try a bowling ball without wearing steel toe shoes and shin guards...

I use to juggle 3 bowling balls, 12 pound each. It impressed me! Then i realized the audience was much more impressed with a bowling ball, a tennis racket and a golf ball. Even more amazing? A bowling ball, anything the audience would offer to be juggled (most often a set of car keys) and a grape. The finale would be catching the grape in my mouth, a 360 body spin and catch of the bowling ball and throwing the keys back to the audience member who offered them. The blow off was the audience member never managed to catch the keys. I tried to do a raisin instead of a grape but the audience thought my humor was to dry.

i have done 3 bowling balls at a bowling alley before just to see if i could do it. i have done a bowling ball a basket ball and a soft ball. i find the hardest in juggling different sized objects is if your biggest ball is your lightest and your smallest ball is your heaviest that will throw you off more then any other combo in my opinion.

What are you trying to accomplish? If it is something of an entertainment factor like the others have noted, then it is ultimately worth the try if you are competent at cascading three of standard objects. The variety adds a factor of interest to an audience.

If, however, it is a matter of building standard skill with objects, I find that it is helpful to use objects which are equally weighted and comfortable for what you are attempting. For instance, I have been working on building a solid five ball cacade in recent months. I won't use anything for this other than a certain set of beanbags which suits the purpose and assists in my ability to make accurate throws consistently. Otherwise, I get thrown off.

Nor do I particularly like to juggle other odd objects or use tools which are not crafted to specific constant standards when I am working on technique. For silliness or showmanship, yes, but not skill building.

So I think the answer lies in a matter of where you are with your juggling and what you hope to accomplish.

The "Audience offer juggle" bit was one I used when working fairs as a strolling entertainer. (Iowa, Texas, Wisconsin, South Dakota, Kentucky state fairs and many small county and city fairs between) Most often the audiences became familiar enough with my show to start being creative with thier challenges. When that happended I would put limits on submitted objects, ending my not-to-be-juggled list with cats. (Steve Martin was very popular)
Some of the usual fair offerings - Corn dog, funnel cake, , painted Frisbees, stuffed animal, knives, yard sticks and baby bottles come to mind. Some of the challenges; Tap shoes, water worm,
Refused items; plastic bag with a goldfish in it, animal afterbirth, pig feet, animal excrement (just about anything that is animal based)

I can juggle 5 balls/rings.

When I got started practising I used 3 lemons, approximately at the same size-weight.After I bought three bean bags which are perfect to start practising.

IMHO it's not the best way to learn with different objects, cause you have to get used in throwing each one of the balls with the same way, speed etc.

Don't forget to check this out:http://www.clown-forum.com/skit-improv/3156-improving-your-juggling-skill.html . It has great links where you can learn juggling!

Good luck!

How dare you ask what we weigh? Oh, you mean juggling? That's different...

I'm glad someone mentioned about learning with different objects! Although, it would be funny to see someone trying to learn with, say, a chainsaw...

...the kind intended for juggling, of course!

Dube make two wieghts of excer balls. they come in one pound and 2 and half pounds. they are the same size as their larger stage balls. if you want to juggle three balls of very different weights but that are the same size.

You can also use three tennis balls. Leave one along. Slit one and stuff it wil bird shot/ Take th third and stuff it with a couple dozen pennied. This will give you three weights in the same size.
