Heya!! I do much of my bookings through agencies. To be honest - I love it!! It takes a bunch of the work out of my hands and I can then concentrate on entertaining more. I've found that as long as I keep my fee at the same level with all agencies AND charge the same if contacted directly then everyone is happy.
Besides - the entertainment community needs each other and what better way to work together for everyones benefit including the clients.

The best way to get started working with agents is to open your local phone book or the yellow pages of the city you are closest to. See if anyone is booking clowns or entertainers in you area. If so give them a call and see if they are looking for anyone new.
A good way to get a feel for what they offer and what they charge is to call and pretend that you are planning an event of the type that you do. Ask them what they charge what they offer and how long they have been in business. You can usually tell who does and doesn't know what they are doing by trying this before contacting them for work.
I would suggest that you do this from a friends house so that your phone number doesn't come up on their caller ID and remembered you called before, that could be embarassing and they wouldn't hire you.
