I'm very hyped after a wonderful day at Vacation Bible School! My church is having VBS this week, and it's awesome so far! Today was the second day. It was so much fun! Our theme is SonQuest Rainforest. Get it? SON Quest. :) Anyway, I had such a great day! My group (the Toucans) are entering grades two and three. So they're six to eight years old. They're so cute!

I really like the way VBS is set up at my church. We have an opening ceremony with everyone together, then break into groups. Each group has one leader. We take turns visiting the different stations -- Bible story, games, and crafts. All the stations have their own leaders. Oh, and we have a break for snacks in which my kids become scavengers. Then we all meet together for our closing ceremony. This format works very well!

Here are a couple of the songs we've learned so far. I really like the songs and actions!

I know this doesn't have anything to do with clowning since I'm leading VBS as myself instead of clowning around there. But it's SO much fun! I'm really energized (yet exhausted at the same time), so I thought I'd share about it.

When does (or did) your church have VBS? Will you be helping out with it as a human or a clown?

Our church is havng a one day VBS on a saturday the 28th of August, and our theme is the fair..they want us to clown at the opening of the day but that is almost a circus theme instead of fair...so any ideas would be appreciated. We have alot to do that day so we have to be the opening act so we can get out of there due to having a booth at a festival that day and my hubbys sisters wedding in the late afternoon.

Thanks, Ladybug! I'm already excited for the rest of this week at VBS!

Your church is only having VBS for one day, Squiggles? I've never heard of that before! And did you just say you'll be clowning at church AND a festival and then going to a wedding, all in one day?! Wow! That's impressive!

Our church's vbs is August 23-27th this year. Rather than hold it in our building, which is off the beaten path in a suburban area, we hold our vbs at a low-income apt. complex in the more metropolitan area. The church has a good relationship with the lady who runs the youth center there (used to be a boys and girls club), so we will be their activities for those days. This is our second year in and its so exciting! This year and last year, we are doing the MegaSports Camp program, which combines learning sports with the learning the Gospel. Our program also includes an opening and closing event, with "huddle coaches" in charge of each group. The kids sign up for one discipline, and spend part of the day in sessions learning that activity, and part having time with their "huddle coaches." Last year we offered cheerleading and basketball, this year looks like basketball, soccer, and drama, which I know isnt a sport but is hopefully a good alternative. I'm the drama director at the chruch, so instead of teaching something like cheerleading again, the pastor suggested we possibly do drama, so I've got the curriculum for that instead. I'll also be showing up in clown on Friday evening (first time!) to work the crowd with my husband, also a new clown, as part of a barbeque after what God willing will be a water baptism event.
