I once heard Pete Fountain respond to the question of what he'd like his epitaph to read. Now, understand, Pete dropped out of school to play in a band because even his school teacher (initially upset that this student was always sleeping in class) admitted that it was unwise to go through this ruse of study when the student was already earning more than the teacher. So Pete didn't understand what an epitaph was. But when it was rephrased to the tune of, "What do you want written on your tombstone?" Fountain didn't miss a beat. Let's see if I can adequately remember his wish. It went something like this:

"Here lies Pete with the happy feet. He loved to play and he played to eat. What are YOU looking at?"
