Hey everyone!
Several clowns have some "walk arounds" lined up for summer. Could you tell me what you do when you visit hospitals and "walk around"? Thanks!

For hospitals I use several small props. and simple magic
a duster so that to dust off troubles and woes, I have pictures of my 'pride and joy' and of course my 3 'kids', and of course sense every one love hospital food I give out brown-Es. along with simple magic, silk change, magic light bult, the 3 beaded pins. I also carry a few items for kids, coloring book and stickers and small give away toys. Things you can easily carry and are quick and ok for close up .

Look in the previous section for walk arounds I use many of the same ideas.

I saw a great one for election years.
A double sided picket sign on one side it said VOTE FOR ME!!
On the other side it said send a REAL clown to Washington!
Just keep flipping it back and forth. the wording works regardless of which side they read first.
Remember, Clowns have no political affiliation. That way we can give equal time to both sides :-D

Another one is a fishing rod with a large bobber on it. (Looks like a six in styrofoam ball painted haly red and white, then a large hook and a foam (Big) number one hanging from it. Sling it over your shoulder and maybe add waders for better effect. Look everybody, I caught the big one!

I forgot to share this earlier. This is likely the best this I ever tried. I found the biggest hand squeaker at a costume shop I have ever seen(It FILLS my palm)I cut a slit in the Left sleeve of my Tramps coat so the the long sleeve drops the squeaker in my palm. When I shake hands with someone, I hit the squeaker. That way they make the clown squeak! Then act suprised, " wow, sorry about that, or boy that's quite a grip you got. You squeaked that one right out of me!"
It's simple but effective and is always good for a laugh!

P.S. It is called a clown duck call.

I like the vote for me sign too Scruffy. We have some elections looming in the UK so I may well make use of it. I could pin the signs to my hat and give out flyers. Great way to advertize during an election!

Back to topic, I used to work in a Hospital where my friend Roly is the official clown. We often shared lunch together with some other Christians in the chapel. He took with him lots of close up gags avoiding the noisy ones. He always said that sensitvity is key when working in Hospitals. You need to keep aware of what is happening around you at all times. Situations can happen very quickly in Hospitals especially in Children's wards that have a wide variety of conditions being treated. Reacting apropriately when situations occur will be apreciated by the staff.

One gag you can use is to put on a mock stethoscope with a bath sponge on the end. Then go around the ward measuring patients humour levels by placing it on their elbows and watching their reaction. You can prepare suitable responses like 'hopeless but not serious', I perscribe laughing gas' or 'hmmmm, keep taking the pills'. It makes a great introduction and if you visit regularly you could call it Dr 'Mercy's ward round or something like that. You could even make a badge saying Dr MercyMe - Laughter Consultant.
