Are you supposed to (or thinking about) using the summer reading program theme?

Anyone know what the theme(s) is/are this year?

Ideally, your Ideal library show would have to do with reading. I answered ass soon as i saw this post.

I didn't think that Knute had any ideals.

Tailor your show to the idea of things which people can learn more about by using the library. Maybe it is a book about whatever the concept you are using (and you CAN use balloons in an entertaining manner here, if that is what you do.) For example, if you make balloon animals as part of a presentation, you can tag the bit by noting that they can find out more about elephants and dogs and whales "AT THE LIBRARY. Just ask your friendly librarian to show you where the books and videos about these things are." Or maybe you are creating balloon hats. Talk a little about the history of hats, interesting hats, hats that men and women wear, wore in the past, or wear in other countries. Hats can be fun, funny, they protect us from the sun, keep us warm.....Where can you learn more about these hats, about history of hats, and about these countries and cultures, along with how important hats are for health or fun things to do with hats (like this hat trick!)? "Right HERE AT THE LIBRARY!" They even have books (and videos, perhaps- consult the librarian yourself beforehand to find out a little more about their collection, maybe even do some show and tell with a couple of key books or use them in your act) on how to make wonderful creations with balloons like I'm doing today, "AT THE LIBRARY!" Basically, use whatever you have in magic, music, balloons, juggling, etc. and direct them via a clear message about how the library can be useful for them learning more about the topic. "Did you know how balloons are made? I found this fascinating book right here at the library all about it. It's right over there in the non-fiction section. And there's a book about latex, also. Latex is what balloons are made of. Some people are allergic to latex. Do you have any allergies? Some people are allergic to pollen, to peanut butter, to bee stings. And you can learn all about allergies, AT THE LIBRARY! (You could do basic tricks with the right props - flowers, disappearing PB&J, a bee balloon creation for any/each of these things.) But, YOU are not allergic to this bee, are you? Nooooooooo! He won't sting you. He's sweet. That's because he makes honey. Do you know how bees make honey? Well, you can find out RIGHT HERE AT THE LIBRARY!!!!

I used the magic coloring book to inspire kids to read. I said the book was like your brain when you don't read- empty. Use a magic wand with a little mini book glued to the end. Say the magician's assistant must be a kid who reads a lot. Then go into having the kids think of all the good books they've read and the pictures in their minds and then yell out their favorite book and those are the pictures will go into the magic book. Then go again saying their favorite character etc. to get the colored pictures. the magician's assistant can be the one that really gets the pictures to stick. I would suggest you do what you do best be it balloons or magic etc and try to think of it in light of children's literature or reading.
You can always do a popular children's book in balloon animal wearable for the characters.
