Ok, all, I'm a member of facepainthq on Google groups. There are a LOT of body painters on there, and I don't know if you've seen any of the body art that is out there, but the majority of it is on nude women. (just the top). SO--being the little stinker that I am, I posted on the forum about how I felt it was inappropriate for women to walk around at these competitions and festivals without any bra or covering on their breasts. WHOA___all these evil women have come out of the cracks defending it. I thought it would be men that would give me a hard time, but these women seem to think it's ok, and children should learn that it's an "art" form. I understand what they mean, but being a Christian and seeing and hearing how nudity affects men, I just can't condone what they're saying. If you get chance to look at the forum, let me know what you think. Maybe I AM way out of line, but I'm sure they would never want their son's teacher to come into class bare breasted with "art" paint on her and say it's ok because it's an art form. Understand? Please add your thoughts...

I guess everything jsut has to do with someones point of veiw. one persona art is anouther persons trash al depends on how its looks to the person looking. you are intitled to what you think thow but in turn so are they. Neather of you are in the wrong

While I'm certainly sympathetic to your point of view, I just don't think this is likely an argument that you're going to get anywhere with among that crowd.

That said, a hornets nest might be something for them to watch out for.... especially if they have flowers painted on their bodies.

Oh, Tim you are SO punny!
Yes, well, it's been an interesting day with all the hubub about the forum. (facepainthq). Actually it's really been a great thing. The owner of Snazaroo got on and REALLY put them all in their place. I was SO proud of him. Great guy, Gary Cole. Then 2 other Christian face painters emailed me and shared my views. That was a relief. Others were not so nice, but I did get a great email from the editor/publisher of Face & Body painting magazine(woohoo, look at me!). She said that at their annual convention, she got some complaints, and said next year she's putting the body painters in their own little place away from others. It's an honest effort, but as Gary Cole said, it will always be an issue.
One Christian girl said I should start my own publication that is clean and only non-nude art...hmmmm could be a new venture. Anyone want to help???

Jitter, I think it's art but I think there is a place for it. These are not statues of nudes, these are people. They wouldn't step out of the shower into a public place, they shouldn't parade around where small children might see.

Put it in a closed room. If parents think it is okay, they will bring their children in. I think the artists are amazing but give parents a choice.

I agree with Stiches there is a time and place for everything. Walking around a face and body painting convention is very different from a school teacher coming into class topless.

I'm afraid we ain't seen nothing yet. Things are moving right along. We all need to be committed to our own values and as clowns, just keep on putting out good without violating our own consciences. We're about having and giving fun and enjoyment rather than using our position to make a statement.
I remain,

Judging people is wrong.
nude is how we all come packaged. The Great Nose would not walk around like this, but The Great Nose would not tell others , or look unkindly at them for doing so, in fact, The Great Nose would look the other way.

Be careful to not let your ideas interfere with others. telling people what they should or should not do is not very christian at all. Understanding them is.The Great Nose hopes we can all get along.

Be careful to not let your ideas interfere with others. telling people what they should or should not do is not very christian at all. Understanding them is.

When these painted models are in very public places, aren't they interfering with those parents who would rather not let their children see? An adult can turn away but should they be forced to cover their children's eyes? Understanding needs to go both ways.

I would let my children see painted models, just as I would let them see topless natives on a National Geographic program. Art/Education/etc. I certainly wouldn't mind having to open a door to see them and other parents would appreciate the door giving them the choice.

I doubt you've stirred up as much of a hornet's nest as you may want to think you have.

People in the edgier art forms are used to busybodies who are a little too concerned with what everyone else is doing, and like to tell people they're wrong in what they do. Bonus points if said busybodies use Bible quotes.

Like, were you serious when you called these women evil? I really hope you weren't. Because that's bigotry. And I won't support a board that supports bigotry in the name of Christianity.

If that's what's happening here, I hope the mod hammer drops hard here.

Needed to be said.

Sheesh! Back off! The only thing I said was that I wondered what other people THOUGHT of the nude body painting, and how immodest I felt it was. Don't put word into my mouth about something you know nothing about. THAT"S judging. I don't quote Bible verses to people who walk in the flesh, (no pun intended).

Hmm. Well Hopper, I must say I didn't really pick up on Jitterbug's use of the word evil when this post first showed up. I assumed she was just using hyperbole. I agree that it's too strong a word to use lightly, especially for clowns. Real evil is much more serious business.

I think people here expressed their opinions politely, whether they agreed or didn't entirely agree with Jitterbug, and did so without using inflammatory words like "evil" or "busybody".

So, both of you go to your rooms! :P

Jitterbug gives the Princess a big hug, and a thankyou kiss on the cheek. Wipes her tears, and goes to her room...ahh. Maybe I'll sleep on a BIG whoopie cushion tonight.

Hmmm, I can't help but notice my initial question, which would be
"Like, were you serious when you called these women evil?"
didn't actually get answered yes or no.

But OK. I'll go to my room now.

Since you don't know my personality yet, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt. Yes, I called them evil because these women were being REALLY MEAN to Jitterbug. They called me names and were making me cry. Therefore, I said they were evil. Understand? Maybe I just should have said they were being big meanies! Sorry for the misunderstanding. Hang around, you'll get me eventually.
