I'm looking for tricks I can do with one ball. Any ideas?
Yes I've heard of contact juggling, but I want to "accidentally" throw the ball in the end, but contact balls are heavy right? So I don't want to hurt the floor...
Of course I can drop that ending part, but it would be better if I can make all my ideas real. :)

You could do partner juggling... without a partner!

Or an invisble partner!

A real easy one ball trick is the tightrope 'walking' ball in which a regular beach ball slowly rolls from one to the other end of a 3 foot rope. Looks hard but VERY easy to do and you can carry it in your pocket.

To present...take an ordinary rope out of pocket , show it to audience and tell them you have a special guest act in your show today...Your friend " The Great BALL-dini " the tightrope walker in the circus is going to perform for them today. Take deflated beach ball out of your pocket and have the birthday ( or any handy ) kid blow up the ball. Now introduce your friend " the world's greatest all a-ROUND circus performer"...Holding the ball in one hand , pick up the rope with one end in each hand and roll ball back and forth as many times as you want. Just act it up to make it LOOK hard. It's not.

The secret is very simple..... A 6 foot long piece of super thin clear fishing line tied in a loop. When you pick up the rope the second time , you steal the gimmick loop and place two fingers on each hand IN THE LOOP and this creates an alley for the ball to rest on while " walking the high wire ( rope ). You just have to get a little used to how tight to hold the loop.

Cheap to make.... Packs small...Easy to do... I use it quite often.

Instead of a rope you could use a colorful scarf of the proper size.

I have also seen this done as a REAL trick in a circus ring.

You might want to look at some Micheal Moshen vids on the youtube. I am not certain if I am spelling his name correctly. Anyway he does some mind blowing stuff with contact juggling. If you are doing it with one ball it is easier to pick up. You can use a large acrylic ball without seams and it looks even better.

there is also some infomercial crud ball thing called a funshigi or something like that. It is basically contact juggling with one ball. They use some exaggerated movement with the finger to make it more impressive than it really is. I have a seven year old in my group that picked it up in a couple weeks.

Don't buy the ball it is way over priced and the dvd that comes with it is kind of annoying. You can get all the impressive stuff with that on the youtube as well.

Contactballs don't have to be heavy! You don't have to use a Acryl bal. A stage ball can also perfectly do the trick and they can also be juggled nicely :

A short stupid thing I like to do with one ball is a kind of illusion in which you act as if you put a invisible rope on the ball. Keep the ball in one hand bellybutonhight. Bring your other hand to eyelevel and by moving this hand as if there is a rope from the ball to this the fingers of the upper hand you try to bring everybodys attention to this hand. Then with as less wristmovement as possible you throw the ball to the hand that is on eyelevel at the same time you make a exagerated pull movement with this upper hand as if pulling a thread. If done smoothly it looks as if you brought the ball up by pulling the thread altough everybody knows you just throw the ball. It sounds stupid but it works just the same as more of these kind of stupid magiclike little trickies work while everybody knows how it is done.

Children also love it when you just throw the ball really high (And hit the ceiling is even more fun) In this case it isn't that much about what you do but how you do it. After throwing the ball as high as you can you could run away like hell acting like otherwise I would get it on my head.

I also do a act in which I throw over with a kid and at the moment I feel the kid is about to throw I watch at the audience. This way making sure the kid will throw the ball without me noticing it and than look back at the kid like common throw me the ball and be suprised the ball is laying at the backside of me. This can be repeated like 3 times and I even sometimes ask the kid if he/she is a magician. Always gives a lot of laughs. Also here it is all about timing and how you do it. You are the only one who doesn't understand what happens???

THANK YOU, OkiDoki,This is all good stuff.

In the " jumping ball illusion "you don't have to move your hand holding the ball at all......if you slide your thumb under the ball you can ' flick' your thumb and the ball will fly....another way is to make a little sling by linking 2 small rubber bands together. When you pick up the ball (1) make a claw with your hand (2) place the sling around the tip of your index (pointer) finder and other end around the tip of your little finger , while at the same time placing your thumb where rubber bands are linked together. You can use your body or a table , etc. to shield your movement. I do it in my pocket. This makes a very effective launcher and will send the ball flying high with no movement of the hand. Just be sure to hold the ball tightly until ready.

I have seen the TV BALL in stores and it's cheaper than TV but still over priced. At least in the stores they DON"T charge you for shipping and handling.

You can get arrested in some localities for that.

Clowns and behaving????!

Oh and thanks for the replies. Just have to figure out what you all mean. XD
By the way, I have an idea to make it even better: I'm going to buy a ball where I can put something in, and after the 'normal trick', I open the ball and do another (and even stupider) trick with whatever is in there. That's unexpected, heh.

Lol, my ideas always sound dull when I write it down, but when I show it it's mostly good. :P

Also with the tightrope ball , you can place a piece of tape, best to use black, about 4 inches long on the ball and say he's going to try it BLINDFOLDED<

Love this!

Direcly gives me associating an idea for a one ball act I might give a try sometime.

Say you are going to do a really really hard trick. Build up the exitment and then throw the ball behind your back and cath it again. Act suprised at the reactions (that won't be wild at all) and ask if they don't find it difficult enough? Ok shall I make it more difficult? Here watch: On one leg. At the same time throw the ball behind your back but than on only one leg. (this is actualy a known goofy stupid juggling joke) The one ball makes it even more dull and stupid and that is what I think makes it even more funny.

Tim is a bad influence on you! ;)

This may be true BUT my wife thinks I am very capable of being bad all by myself. Since she has been married to me 28 years, she might know what she talking about.

Since Jozo and other tender eyes are reading this I cross my heart and promise on the THE CLOWN BOOK OF HONOR AND PROPER BEHAVIOR AT ALL PUBLIC OCCASIONS to do and be my best at all times.

Maybe you should send Grandpa Weaterbie to the circus to keep an eye on me.....Please just don't send Zeeppo.....PLEASE. The beard scares me.

I actually have a funny story about that which my grandfather used to share about a guy at the bar he always went to.

Feel free to send Tim a Clown Mail if you really want to hear his story. And Tim, as penance for (I don't know, leading them into temptation? You're guilty of something here, I'm sure of it! :p) you have to type out each story individually and lose your work to crashes and network outages several times.;)
