View Full Version : Silks and Static Electricity

I use a lot of silks in my show. In the summer I have no problems. I set my iron at the lowest setting and iron them when they are real bad. But in the winter I end up with a lot of static electricity. I tried magic sizing and static guard but they don't seem to help. Granted I am only misting them as I do not want to soak them.

Anyone have any ideas?

Through another forum I found the answer. I share here for others if they are having the same problem.

I used a dryer sheet and rubbed the silks with them. That took out about 90% of the static electricity and made the silks a lot easier to work with.

Forget the iron. Theres no need to risk burning your silks. I just run mine under cold water and spread them flat on some paper towels. No wrinkles! Once the paper towels are dry, you can use them over and over.

Thanks so much. That is a lot safer for me. I usually don't burn silks but I do burn my own fingers.

I just steam them over a pot of boiling water. Steam and stretch as you go the wrinkles come right out.
