View Full Version : Introducing...
Concpets for my face!!!
Yes, one of my friends (My partner-in-clowning, Ribbit) came over a few days ago, and kinda wanted to see my face finally get at least into concepts. So, my mom started just trying different things. Our first one was this:

She didn't think it suited my charactrer though. And that was also about the time that one of my clown-o-phobic (I don't know the real term for it, so don't get offended...I have a bit of a small vocabulary) friends came over, (needless to say he didn't stay long, but he wasn't all that frightened either) and also about the time my mom thought about doing a white-face for me.
This is how it turned out:

She ended up not liking either and saying that at the next clown convention she wants it to be professionally done.
Now, what I like and dislike about both:
I like the first one's eyes, a lot.
Buuuut........the white around my mouth makes me teeth look yellow, for both types. It kinda...shows off the stains I have from the legalised torture devices called "braces" that I've had for the past year or so (believe me, I've tried everythign I can afford to do to get them off, but nothing's worked yet).
Comments? Suggestions? I'm open to almost anything.
Oh, and sorry about the size of the images. I'm not good with sizing...
saphireSue 12-03-2006, 05:56 PM try a the light look with less make up just paint the bottom lip and out line in white. Keep trying different looks till you find the one for you. I still experiement as with seasoning [age] my face is not the same as it was so... but as far as the white teeth go. Even if your teeth are professionally whitened and shine so bright they blind.. they still will show different then the white make up. smile [not grin] if you can. I think just about every one has this problem.
ibimus 12-03-2006, 07:44 PM You're a mime....definately go Whiteface!
Try some red on your lips. Red lipstick makes your teeth look whiter. (find some with blue undertones, which sounds contradictory, but it's not. There are cool reds and warm reds. Get a cool red. :) )
Jitterbug 12-03-2006, 09:09 PM Okay, I LOVE the eyes. Very creative little arch there. But yes, you need to stick with maybe just below the mouth with the white and red around the lip area. I'd add some Lashes or eyeliner with lots of mascara to really make your eyes pop out. Maybe a little 8point star on one cheek? (just made of lines) "ritz". Let us know what you come up with.
Good start!

Scruffy 12-04-2006, 01:57 AM I like the first face best, but I'm a sucker for an Auguste.
About the teeth....
Just learn to to show your teeth when you smile. In fact; If you look at pictures of Lou Jacobs, When he did his clown smile he would pull his mouth into a tight "O" shape in order to enhance his greasepainted grin.
Also, (Personal experience,) no clown tooth bleach or toothpaste can match Clown white. It's just too highly pigmented.ANd at least for me if I show my teeth, I then look like a scary clown.
The whiteface is nice also but I would just use black and white. They are traditional for a mime. One of my concerns is that youare true to your visions of character. also, You might end up getting pideon holed. Clowns use Pantomime, but I've never seen amime who was a clown in the modern sense.
You might have to be the first.
I like the whiteface, though I'd maybe try it without the red swoosh on the chin. Yes, mascara with that. Maybe a smallish red dot on the nose.
Agreed that the eyes of the auguste look are really cool. I think that they fit your face well and maybe your magical type character, too. Perhaps hang onto them and keep working at the mouth and cheeks. I know I found my muzzle and cheeks before I could figure out my eyes. (Wanders around blindly with arms outstretched). And everything built off the nose. It might be similar for you as it falls into place over time and in pieces. Indeed, play around with red lips there (or maybe even white with a black outline, and see how that goes.
ashes 12-04-2006, 09:17 AM I think Scruffy's first line should read:
Try NOT to show your teeth when you smile.
And yes, clown white is so white that nobody's teeth
can keep up.
And I believe you should always outline your eyes
when they are done with white around them - otherwise
they get lost in this sea of white.
So, yes to mascara, and yes to an eyeliner of some sort.
Add in a big red nose and the auguste face will look pretty
good. The eyes, especially.
Good luck and keep us posted on your other trial faces.
It's always a work-in-process. A journey.

stitches 12-04-2006, 09:19 AM You're a mime....definately go Whiteface!
That was my thinking when I tried the whiteface on her, but so far, Ritz is more of a silent clown than a mime. Ritz, practice some mime routines. You should find out if it is something you will enjoy. Personally, I don't think you will be happy with whiteface because you are so concerned with your teeth.
I went with black lips on both faces because it suits my daughter. She likes black, but is only wearing black until they make something darker. Whether or not it suits Ritz, remains to be seen. Ritz, Lets get the right shade of red for you and see how that looks.
Nothing is set in stone, clowns (character, costume, makeup) evolve over time.
Scruffy 12-04-2006, 01:00 PM Thanks for Clarifying Ashes. Maybe that will teach me not to post at three am.
What if you don't have any teeth?
As for the teeth, I kinda understood that. *pokes braces stains* Nothing is whiter than clown white. *Mom, don't make a comment about my paleness, please*
And, yes...I am one of those kids who, as my mom described it, wears black until they come out with something darker. That IS NOT Ritz, though. The clown-ministry face I had had less white, and still had the black lips though.
What if you don't have any teeth?
...Good question....*ponders*

Aaaawwwww! But if I don't comment on it, who will?
(Gee, I think you just did!)
I would never ever comment on your paleness, nor would I ever post your baby picture, or talk about your six toes, or the hairy growth on your left earlobe, or that you wear Elmo slippers, etc.
I had Amelia Earhart tattooed on Ritz's hand. It's her "Palm Pilot"!
