Well, being from Ireland I do not know really what constitutes a "Hillbilly" . All I know is what I ahve seen in movies.

Are there really hillbillies? Do they get offended if you call them that? Are they aware that they are subject to ridicule like this?

Have you heard of red-neck jokes? The comedian Jeff Foxworthy [spelling?] tell all sorts of red neck jokes, its pretty comon in the states for northerns to make fun of Southerns and visa versa, Hillbillies well I wouldn't think any still exist but from doing home health I know there are still people that refuse to have a bathroom in their home because they think it dirty, so who knows. A hillbilly lives way up in the moutains, makes moonshine, they usually have little to no education, same with teeth, and poor, distrust foreigners [any one not living on their mountain]. That's how I'd descibe it. You would never call some one a hillbilly but people will often call them selve that or red-necked,

Foxworthy's of a Redneck

(Somebody with a) glorious absence of sophistication.

By the way,

If you've ever been accuesed of lying through your TOOTH--You might be a redneck.

(P.S. In one of his books he said that California beach bums are just rednecks in funny clothes)

Of course, "Toothbrush" was invented by a hillbilly, 'cause if
it was a regular folk it would be called a "Teethbrush"
