View Full Version : Newbie here I've got my name... but nothing else!
PanettaPicklePants 09-29-2004, 02:59 AM Hi my name is Panetta and I'm new to clowning, so new that all I have is my name.
My husband thinks Im nuts already and told me while I was looking at mooseburgers.com for an outfit that i didnt need one! LOL
Anyways! Mooseburgers is soooo expensive forme right now but I love her designs... anyone know of a place I can get something close but not so expensive?
My plan is to do Childrens events and I would love to be a hospital volunteer! How do I do that? Where do I start? Ohh the excitement! I can't wait to completely pull Panetta Picklepants together!
So glad I found this site, I'm looking forward to being a regular and getting to know you all!
Panetta
Isn't this site the greatest?
Welcome aboard, Panetta! (Hugs and shakes, not necessarily in that order)
I think you'll find this is a well organized website with a mixture of seasoned veterans and new people like yourself. I'm still a First of May, since I've only been doing this about six months.
As far as answering your question about outfits, unfortunately I'm not sure myself. I went to Moosburger camp on the road when they came to town, and I did like their stuff, but I understand your concern about cost.
I put together my first outfit by sewing with a McCalls pattern (YEAH ME!) and of course with Mrs. BIPS big help. The second and third outfits I currently use I designed for summer, and basically went shopping at a Good Will store. You'd be amazed at some of the most clowny looking things you can find there. I also tye dyed my shirts, and sewed my own hat, but I found my pants, suspenders, and other outlandish stuff at Good Will.
Hope this helps!
Gilbert 09-29-2004, 12:30 PM I find it's always best to gather your gear from rummage sales, charity shops and making your own. Making your own is the best because you can unify your clown image. I have a combination of bought and home made stuff in my costume. I have not tried pre-made outfits because I am concerned that I may meet another clown dressed like me.
It's amazing how many clowns I meet since I began clowning. Only a couple of days ago I pulled up in a fuel station where a clown was paying for his fuel, I went and paid for mine and as I came out to go to my bike another clown was pulling up at a pump!
Jubilee 09-29-2004, 02:28 PM Hey, Panetta! Welcome!!! You could try www.clowncostumes.com and get a few accessories and then get the actually clothing at a thrift shop or something. I got my shirt, gloves, suspenders, etc. from them and then I had a big pair of jeans that I have from losing weight and have a few pair of water shoes I got that are colorful. They do for now. Clown shoes can be expensive!!!
Hang in there. You'll find what you need. Right now, try to think what your character might wear and just start looking around.

Scruffy 09-29-2004, 03:23 PM i guess the good thing about a tramp is your supposed to look out of date. I would also reccomend Ebay. type into the serch box costumes for working clowns and then go to her other items. She has had other costumes in the past. They look great and her prices are IMO beyond reasonable.
Her user name is pianobsharp
PanettaPicklePants 09-30-2004, 02:02 PM Thank u sooo much for all of the great ideas! I did check Ebay thanks for that info! I also ordered a few books from Barnes and Noble, Creative Clowning, and a book on juggling! I think that should get me started!
As far as my costume I'm going to hit the thrift stores this weekend and a couple of Costume stores here in old Rochester... wish me luck!

saphireSue 09-30-2004, 05:32 PM check out costumes by betty at www.clowning4christ.com, she got some around $100 I saw once. I made mine, but I did find some thing the other day at Good will for the hosptial, an old surgery scrub dress donatied by a teaching hospital Green, I been thinking pink long wig with braid, surgery dress, some type of leggs and of course funnel steth.scope, You'd be suprized what you can fine at thrift stores. Oh and a big WELCOME :D
Webmaster 10-03-2004, 10:50 AM Hi PanettaPicklePants, welcome aboard.
Before you jump into buying a costume, I am going to ask that you hold off for a little while. I am currently working on 2 new features of the site (Photo Gallery and Competition) [as some of you may have gotton sneak previews of while I was working]
Anyway, the competition system (Although EXTREMELY overdue due to personal circumstances) will be giving away some ..... pretty nice things.
:) I'll say no more. (Just to keep y'all in suspense) Stay tuned!
