I have bangs which I have to spray back prior to putting on my wig. [This is a new cut for me]. Anyway for the first time, gnats would not leave me alone, Others had put on hair spray but they're all aguste and I'm white face, so I guess it the white that attracted them. Have any of you had problems on an outdoor activity that this happened to? Any ideas. This is the first time for me, and they wouldn't leave me alone, I had to stay indoors to greet people. Gross [the gnats not the people].

Hi Sapphire, did the hairspray you use have a fruity smell to it? Fruit derrivitives in it? Does any of the make up you used have fruit smell or anything? Did you spray on a fruity cologne? Use fruity soap or shower gel? Because this will attract those pesky things!

They are also attracted to decaying matter... not saying that you were walking around with decaying food on you LOL! It's just an fyi.

So sorry to hear about this I know how pesky those things can be, I have fruit trees and they are everywhere in the yard!

They are also attracted to decaying matter...

I guess that explains why I get problems with the pesky things in and out of clown. As my mum always told me "They are attracted to bad meat" Pheramones are the problem in my case. I seem to attract flys and repel women! :(

Seriously though, Panetta is right, check out what is in the contents of the stuff you are putting on.

Sapphire,
Try wearing a scull cap. It could also be a one time thing. As it starts to get colder they won't be a nuisance. Pantella had a valid point. My wife used to wear a perfume called Le Fluer. The bees would flock to her like it was honey.

You could go over the hairspray with an odurless insect repellent.

Thank, I hope it was just one of those freaky things, several used the exact can of spray and they didn't bother them, the only difference I could pick up on was that I was white faced and you know how other bugs are attracted to light colors. I 've had to deal with the occasional fly, and fire ants are terrible here so you have to becareful outside where you stand but gnats they just seemed to be after me that night. It was weird. Oh well, live a learn.

AS far as decaying matter, any of you every herd of potted possum. There used to be a place that sold it as a gag with a complete saying about how fresh oppossum was pick up daily from the roadside. I had a can once, like to find another, it could make a good gag.
