Saturday morning was cold, and dressed in my 3.14 number on my back and crazy outfit I played it up well. They had two races, one for 3k for the small kids, and a 5k for the larger kids and adults. I stood by the finish line and cheered them in by number, holding my hand out for them to slap as they passed. Some were energetic and receptive, and others wanted nothing to do with me, which I thought was a strange reaction. Most of the kids liked it the first race, and stood by me and the timer clock. I asked them if they could spot the adults down the road if they could tell me their names. It became an interesting game for the dozen kids that were hanging out watching who came next.

Gilbert, the 3.14 number was a hit. Since this was for Arlington Independent School District, it was a big hit with the teachers and adults who knew what it stood for! :)

I also learned something important about exposure. I brought my digital camera/camcoder, and had a volunteer take a photo of me with a large purple dinosaur from the local pizza joint, and our Texas rangers Horse mascot that was there too. I got a couple of kids in the photo. A lightbulb lit upo. I told mom, dad, and grandpa to take one of my business cards, and that if they would email me and tell me this was requesting a copy of the photo for them, I would send it free of charge. Instant exposure, and several cards given out to boot. I also got a photo with two of the teachers, and the lady taking the photo and teachers got my card. They wanted it in the AISD newsletter!!

Next week I should be able to get either up on my website, or in here so everyone can take a look! :)

Great idea! I'm going to the AIDSWALK in Washington, DC this Saturday and I intend to do something similar. Can't wait!
