View Full Version : Bought a new wig to help find my "inner clown".
TinyTiff 10-19-2004, 06:52 PM The lady at the costume store (who used to be a professional European clown) thought I was crazy for buying a huge, curly, purple wig, but I wanted something different. My DH thinks it makes me look like a Disco DIva, but I still haven't fully accessorized my new clown wardrobe. (Have to have a new suit to match the hair  )
Once that is done I really think it's going to suit me. The wackier the better. AM I crazy and unconventional for wanting something other than red? Have I broken some old clown law? (It seemed that way when it was being ordered) Will other clowns look down on me because I have purple hair?
Purple hair clowns unite!
Scruffy 10-19-2004, 07:50 PM Yes, You have broken an old rule-BIG DEAL.
Tiff, Don't worry about it They all tell you to stick to natural colors I.E. color that people nornmally have; Red, Yellow(Blond) Orange (Strawberry blond.) I don't think it is a very big thing these days. I must confess, the only wig color I don't care for is rainbow, Specifically the rainbow afro wig. To me it just screams Wal Mart .
BTW, in my younger days I worked with a clown who went by the Purple Kid. PK for short. Her wig was a purple afro. It worked with her costume and character.
You very well may change your look completely before you are satisfied with your costume, face and wig. Don't worry about it. Go to WalMart and get a good quality foot locker. Take care of your wigs, Even if you no longer use them. Some little clowns in the future might.
Jobee 10-19-2004, 09:44 PM I've gone through so many wigs it's not funny. I've tried the red curly, the yellow silly boy, and now the blue. I like how the blue looks with my outfit and hat, but I will switch hats and go with the yellow wig for the porkpie hat I have.
saphireSue 10-19-2004, 10:10 PM Hey with colors people now dye their natural hair, any color is up for grabs. My wigs blue and its part of my clown, I'm Saphire Sue, I'm true Blue...saphires are prescious blue stones, and I'm just a chip off the old block..... I think purple is great. It's one of my favoriate colors go for it.
Jobee 10-19-2004, 10:57 PM I thought about doing that. I'm only 25 but I have been losing hair since I was 16. I would take a while to get what I want and it doesn't fit with my character.
And I think I like the bald look. :oD
mr_buckaroo 10-20-2004, 03:00 AM as i see it if purple is part of your inner clown then go for it. you are not triin to get someone elses inner clown out of you. besides i think clowns should accept clowns of all colors makes the worlds got round. i do agree with you scruffy about the rainbow hair reminds me of the guy back in the 70s and 80s that use to go to the football games with them all the time. no shirt and rainbow wig eeewwwww
Ya know, I think purple is great. It's not what other clowns think anyways....
If you like it and are confident and comfortable with it and it shows in your act, the kids and adults you're entertaining will love it, and in my never to be humble opinion....
THATS WHAT MATTERS MOST! :)
Jubilee 10-20-2004, 09:31 AM Color is not as important to me, as long as it looks good. The only thing that would bother me is if the color of your wig or the style was scary. Otherwise, go for it! Of course, this is from someone with a red wig. Grin.

Gilbert 10-20-2004, 12:58 PM Ditto to all the other posts. You da clown! Go for it :D
SouthwestSam 10-31-2004, 09:50 PM Howdy Tiff,
I think you'll find in Clowning that Colors come and Colors go but it's what's in the heart that makes the perfect Clown. (However, I've seen many purple colored wigs at various conventions past)
Good Luck with it....

PanettaPicklePants 11-01-2004, 01:51 AM When I went to pick out my clown attire it was quite funny... I first picked up socks with red being predominant in them... I picked up a pair of red gloves, and a red horn... I proceded over to the counter and tried on a blue wig... didnt like it... tried a green a yellow a purple an orange a white....... minutes later Brite Lites said to me ummm what's your favorite color?? I said red! She said... "I can see that!" and handed me my red wig, and Voila!! I loved it!
I think you have to go with what you like best! and what best brings out your natural sillyness.
;)

Jobee 11-01-2004, 02:03 AM Gotta warn you Pan, too much red might make you look like an apple not a clown. :D
