I'm planning ahead to spring/summer 2005 to get some real clown training. Are there any recommendations on which training event is better... clown camp at Univ. of Wisc. or Mooseberger Camp, and why do you think your choice is better? Or... is there a different or better opportunity?

Hey there! Welcome aboard the ole USS Clownster....

Hold on tight to the railing, as this ship takes some funny sharp turns...

I've been to Mooseburger camp on the road with Chuck Sidlow, Frosty Little, Joe Barney, and the Mooseburgers when they visited Arlington Tx in March, and I have to say that was a great experience. It was shorter than the one in MN, just three days of intensive classes, shows, and fun, and we got to perform for a huge group of underprivledged kids the last day.

Since it's the only one I've done, I'm not sure how it compares to the others, but I would that this one is definitely a great place to start learning.

I agree with you Gilbert... Here in Brazil, we don't have the same... I would like so much to go, someday, on one of these... But it's so expensive for me... Imagine it...

I have Strutter's makeup book. I read all I can on the internet. I have several books and videos on balloon twisting. I've spent 46 years with the real of "Mose" ... if that doesn't leave you with a sense of humor, nothing will.

Moz o, It sounds like you have gotten a good, solid foundation in clowning. Even without the camp. I would love to go to one, Hopefully I will. Looks like I'm going to a new job very soon. I hope so!I would really like to take my family to the circus wolrd museum in Baraboo next summer.
I'd like to make an analogy here.I've played the guitar for the last 27 years. As I matured as a musician,I heard snippets of guitars players over the years but mainly I tried to learn to play like Chet Atkins. There were things I couldn't do or figure out so I made up my own licks. As a result My guitar playing doesn't sound like anyone else. IT IS ALL MINE. Did I get things from others? Absolutely. But too many my age thought all they could do is learn to play like Eddie Van Hale, or Steve Vai, both are very skilled, but because they learned all their licks and nothing else, many can't play anything original as a result. They can't only play those set licks and patterns.
Be original! And by the looks of things Mose, You've got that figured out!

Scruffy, what a great analogy. Thanks very much for your encouragement. :D

Both camps are great but also check to see if there are conventions going on in your area that you can attend you can never learn too much

I agree with all the others. Bubba Sikes does some trainings across the Eastern US. He did one in Southern Virginia not too long ago. Check out www.bubbasikes.com.
I haven't been to the camps you mentioned, but have heard good things about both.
I have been to two trainings that were ministry clowning oriented, but hope to go to Circus Magic here in Virginia in February. That is supposed to be a great training! If you can come up for that, it would be great to me you.

Hi Mozo: I would like to recommend Clownfest in Seaside Heights NJ in September. It's 5 days of classes taught by the top pro's in the industry. It's like a 5 day comedy show. There are things of interest for the very newbie up to seasoned professionals. I learned more in 5 busy days than I have in 2 years of performing professionally. The teachers are also the vendors who have shops set up to provide everything you could imagine for clowning and family entertainment. Mooseburger Originals, Costumes by Betty, Duane Laughlin, Dave Hill, JT Sikes, Bob Gibbons, Peachy Keene, Cherri Venturi, Jim Howle, Leon McBride...the list goes on. My apologies to those I forgot to list, but you get the idea. The week ends on Sunday with a Grand Parade down the entire boardwalk. I'm telling you that this is more fun than human's should be allowed!!Check out the website to see what went on...Clownfest.com...bump a nose...Willy Nilly

I am headed to clown camp this May. I just got my registration confirmation yesterday in the mail. A group from my alley are car pooling it. The big thing that attracted me was it’s the 25th year there and there bringing in 50 of the best instructors out there. I can’t wait to eat sleep and drink nothing but clowning for an entire week!

I've been considering Mooseburger. A couple of the other Kena Klowns (My Shriner Unit) are talking of going as well. The Circus Magic seminar in Williamsburg, VA looks good too. Plus it's only about a two hour drive from me. I might take my three year old down for the day if I can't get away for the whole weekend.

The Great Clown Adventure is a Mooseburger event but I agree with the majority that say -go to the Mooseburger clown camp- It's probably the best for pro's, ameteurs, and beginners.(unfortunatly, I usually don't have the time and $$$ at the same time)

I attended Moose Camp last month. Unbelieveable experience. Wonderful setting and environment. Fun times. Much to be learned and great relationships built. I forget where exactly I first heard about them or was reminded about the Mooseburger's such that I looked into their stuff more seriously. It may actually have been this very thread. Whatever the case, thanks so much to whoever it was that brought it to my attention!

I've been privileged to make two Mooseburger "Caravans" - where they bring instructors and do a long weekend camp. Both were in
Arlington, TX.

They really are good, and there are a lot of things to learn and
friendships to be made.

If you can swing a Mooseburger event of any kind, do it!
