does anyone have any juggling tips? I pracitce alot, i figured how to make them not crash in the air from some online sites, but, it just seems so hard to concentrate on 3 balls, i have 2 mastered, and when i feel im getting better, its like i lose it. I keep losing it just when i think im catching on.

Practice over a bed. You won't have to chase the ball as far...
I'm in the same boat, just keep plugging away. Right now I'm working on doina a single three ball pass., Speed isn't the issue. I keep trying not to drop them. I figure speed will come later.
I'm tempted to quit. I'm beginning to think that the kids find watching me drop them funnier than me catching them!

Are you attempting to learn the shower or cascade?

claratheclown

i think its the cascade, its not the typical one you see in cartoons, its the one where you throw them like into a side ways eight type thing. and to Scruffy, DON'T GIVE UP!!! You can always pretend to drop them even when you already know how to do it for real. My two year old niece was watching me too when i was practicing juggling and she was crying with laughter everytime i dropped them. After i would drop them so they hit me on the head on purpose, she loved that, lol!

That's my point the kids think it funnier when I do drop them!

Ok, what is the 'shower' and what is the 'cascade'?

Gilbert

The shower looks like the circle pattern jugglers use and the shower is the pattern that looks like the balls are bobbing up and down. Hope you understand that. I used to have some links that illustrate this. I'll see if I can find them.

Thanks! I could use all the help I can get. I'm at the point where I can juggle three balls once but after about four or five one drops and I want to get to a point where it looks great.

Just keep practicing and you will get there. You have passed the major hurdle. I used to set myself a challenge to increase the number of catches each time I practiced. I did not always succeed  so DO NOT beat yourself up if you don't. Keep it as a fun excercise. Eventually I gave up counting and used time to measure my juggling ability.

What I like is the study where they found that people who learn to juggle increase their grey matter of their brain increasing memory.

Great! Only toruble is you nearly lose your mind on the way! I guess jugglers are like mad professors then.

Sound like most of my professors. Though sometimes I want to juggle books off their heads. :)

What a kind of experiment to observe the elasticity of the books - eg how far the bounce off

Jobee

Not much, they might just absorbe them or drown the pages in marinara and eat the pages.

I bought a book that came with juggle cubes... it is very hard! I cant get it right it all. I left them on my kitchen counter and every day I walk by and pick up 1 toss it up from one hand to the next.... and then I'll pick up a second cube and toss both of them up and when I go to catch them they go flying out of my hands across the room...... the dogs come running in from the living room to scoop them up and they take off into the living room each with one in mouth LMAO! Guess I can always bring the dogs on a gig with me?

You're all right though, it is hard and takes lots of practice and perserverance I'm not going to give up!

Quick question though, does anyone juggle scarves? I hear it's easier but you have toss them harder and faster.

You have to toss them a bit different but because they float they are easier to follow....So they say. I''ve tried it with scarves but,I have done better with the bags.

So......

By learning how to juggle I increase my grey matter....that's good....eh....

Wait! I'm trying to lose weight, not gain it!

*Shakes his head not knowing what to say to Gilbert*

Ok, then stop juggling!

Gilbert

When you juggle scarves you need to lift them and let them drop. the trick here is to always catch the lowest one and not worry about following a pattern.

I bought a book that came with some bags. I read the book. I even progressed to the point of 2 bags at once. Then I got frustrated at 3 bags and quit.lol. Is it easier to learn to juggle with scarves?

i believe it is easyer to juggle with scarves because they dont fall like a ball they more drift to the ground. i say a book at waldens book store the other day that had a book the balls and a set of scarves all in one and i think they only wanted 8 bucks for it to learn juggling

I have worked on Juggling off an on for many years. I'm closer now than I ever was. I can throw the third ball in the cascade, AND catch it. I just have trouble keeping the pattern neat.

Gilbert

Once you have learnt the patter it's just practice, practice, practice.

Scruffy

I've been practicing too. I stand at the foot of the bed and juggle over it. This way I don't move and when I do drop them (which is often  ) I don't have bend down so far to pick them back up. I tried a little this weekend in front of the kids. It is funny when I drop them only if I act goofy. Otherwise I just look like a Klown that can't juggle.

Looking back on it, I did find it hard at the time. Now I find some patterns very easy. I've just started ring juggling. Unforuntly I only bought three and within a few hours I wanted to try four lol. I can juggling 4 balls and I'm going to try 5 soon, I'm just looking for good, celra and well understood versions.

Do you do contact Juggling aswell, Krissy? I haven't tried it but its suppose to be good.

Somethings you might want to try , Shady Lamps are learning to balance things, or spin plates (Something even I can do!) you might even think about learning some acrobatic things like tumble, balance, even ride a unicycle. Which you can do while you juggle. But learn to do these things properly. You are young yet, but you do not want to risk your body's future health and strength doing things wrong that may hurt your abilities in the future. A dancer freind of mine can no longer dance because of an injury to his spine.
Find out what they will teach you in that Circus School and see how much of it you can learn from other places.
Again; Learn to do it properly and safely.

hehe I can see the headlines now......****wanders into dreamworld***.........Young Juggler Breaks Bones After Trying To Unicycle, Juggle Fire While Balancing on Her Head.

:( I dont like that headline......

Practise hard and it won't happen...much,ever.

Seriously, If you leanr those things one of twothings may happer. When the time comes for Circus school You will kick Butt at the audition, get in, and be able to concentrate on honing your skills instead of learning those things in a crash course format.
OR
Maybe you won't need Circus School?

Look into Gymastics, and maybe even taking some dance.

Thanks Scruffy, I'm going to look into tumbling and some balance skills. Anyone got any good ideas what I should use to start of my balancing??

Scruffy
01-11-2005, 04:38 PM
If you can get your hands on a book called creative clowning. there is a chapter in there on balancing things. it is a good book in have in any clowns library.

Thanks again Scruffy, I've had a look for Creative Clowning and I'm going to order it over the internet.

Just to let you all know the Moscow State Circus is in Northern Ireland and I'm hoping I can get tickets. Has anyone ever seen them?

shady_lamps
01-14-2005, 02:25 PM
Nah I haven't tried scarfs yet. I didn't even know you could juggle scarfs until I looked at starting juggling. I think they'd be too slow for me now, I've gotten so used to juggling three balls that juggling somthing so light would be odd.

Since you can allready juggle, scarves may seem like juggling underwater in sloooooowwwwwwwwmotion 8)
