Does anyone on here use one of those clown noses that have the elastic to hold it to your face or do most people use prosthetics like ProNoses etc.? I personally use a ProNose and have bought 2 so far so I would have options but I was just curious as to what everyone else was using.

A lot of clowns use ProNose simply because Leon has done a good job marketing a good product. A number of clowns still use noses with elastic and then there are other nose options like Jim Howle and I have even seen classes on creating your own leather clown nose.

Hmm, I could've sworn my post was attached to another thread, oh well.... thanks for the reply though.

Does $300.00 seem steep for a wig to you or is it just me? I just saw a site selling wigs for 100's of dollars and I don't care what the hair is made of, if I bought all my wigs for those prices I would be in debt for sure.

I once talked to Jim Howell about the possibility of attaching my nose with elastic. He explained to me how to do it properly, but also noted that with the particular style of nose which I use it is best to use adhesive rather than elastic due to shapings and how the elastic would not pull the nose in a way which would look natural. So I suppose it depends upon what kind of nose you want to use as to whether or not elastic band attaching will work for you.

As for a $300 wig. Yeah, kinda steep. While a really high quality human hair wig that someone might want for another purpose entirely can get quite expensive, the only thing I could see paying real significant money for in clown wigs in a genuine yak. But I don't know if they go for that much, necessarily, or if you really need that kind of quality for most clowning.

Yes, and no. It depends on how serious you are about you clowning, the character that you create, and the look you want your character to have. Bozo the clown started as an illustration. When the character was created for the TV market. They had to have a wig made to match the illustrators drawings.
The very best and most expensive wigs are made from Yak hair. They look more realistic than synthetic hair. It can be washed, dyed, styled, cut, combed, and curled just like real hair. as a result, they cost mucho denairo. If you envision a character with a very unusual hair style, like a reverse Mohawk,or all of your hair standing straight up and cut like a flattop. or you want it to stand up on end at the tug of a cord, then it will cost.
Also, custom wigs are made to fit your head. A custom fitted wig cap, means that you natural hair is covered. No stray hair falling out or having to trim your side burns to the top of your ears so that the wig covers your hair.
It really is a personal issue. I myself use my natural hair and keep it grown out long on the sides to get the look I want. If you are happy with the synthetic wig. then great. No law says you have to spend the money for Yak. but if the clown inside of you calls out for a certain look, then yak might be your only allbeit pricey option.

Lust my 2 cents,

It was, I moved it. :) (It was tangential to the discussion there and I knew it would turn into a full-fledged discussion on its own.)
