View Full Version : BIPS Coloring/Activity book
I got it in my head to make a coloring/activity book to give out to the kids.
This came up because I've come across several times that I've had to leave, and all I have to give to the kids and parents are cards, and I thought this might be another way to not only get my information to them to contact me, but also something fun for the kids.
I'm doing seasonal ones right now, just finished one for November/Thanksgiving, so I'm hoping that I will be able to scan the pictures in for parents to also print out that have website access in the next day or two.
Gilbert, Webmaster, or any other computer savy people out there, how do I shrink my pics for the website to thumbnail size? I want to try and have a monthly coloring/activity book, so if I have several pages for each month that will take up quite a bit of room unless I get their size down.
Thanks in advance guys!
:)
Scruffy 11-03-2004, 10:10 AM Are you having an artist do the pictures or using stock art work?
I'm actually using a traced photo of myself as one of the largest pages, along with a word find and scramble, and some hand drawn pictures of ballons, along with me wishing everyone a happy thanksgiving. I'm going to see how well it works, and if the response is good, I'll do more for December
PanettaPicklePants 11-03-2004, 06:40 PM I use PSP (paint shop pro) to shrink my images it is very easy... you can download a free version at cnet.com do a search for paint shop pro under downloads. Any graphics program will also work, I'm just privy to PSP.
Or if you want you can always send me the pics and I can shrink them down for ya :)
Let me know!

Scruffy 11-04-2004, 04:58 AM MY avatar came off of a codak picture disk. It had a coloring picture feature on it. I though about it. In Creative clowning, Hal diamond wrote a chapter on promoting and had an idea for coloring pages I tried to coloring page feature on my face but with all the black it was rather muddled.
The tracing I did of the one photo is actually better than I thought it would turn out. In the next issue I want to try a larger copy of the picture I'm currently using as my avatar. I have the derby hat with the bird in this one, and I'm planning a whole array of hats to get in the months to come, mainly because I'm not all that crazy about clown hair. I'm also going to invest in one of those bald caps that I'll probably have for next winter...
Gilbert 11-04-2004, 04:45 PM What software are you using for your pictures Bips? Most packages have a resize function that will reduce the size of your pic. Before I moved over to Linux I used Paint Shop Pro. As Panetta said it's easy to use and well worth downloading. However if you like I would be willing to resize them for you as long as they are .gif or .jpg images. I have not explored all the image types my new software handles but these two should work and are the best formats for websites.
Picaburu 11-04-2004, 06:39 PM You can reduce your photo (lime my avatar) on MICROSOFT PHOTO EDITOR...

What software are you using for your pictures Bips?
Adobe Photo, not sure which version. I'm going to look into the Paint Shop Pro though, because I've heard good things about it in the past.
I need to shrink the photos that I've currently transfered online and upload them again I think, because it doesn't look like I can do it after I've transfered them...
Gilbert 11-05-2004, 07:35 PM I enjoyed using PSP and would have brought it across to linux if it were possible. However I have now found a linux program called Gimp which is even more powerful but for Linux.
giggles 11-15-2004, 10:10 AM once you started talking so technical you lost me, but an activity book sounds like a good idea...
It did get a bit involved, didn't it....
Anyways, I'm happy to announce that it's been a tremedous success, and I'm currently working on developing one for December. I'm working on adding thumbnail images to my website for the coloring book pages, so hopefully these will be available in the next week or two.
Hey Webmaster, Gilbert, and any other gifted technical or person, what's the easiest way for me to do a thumbnail page for the coloring pages?
