I've been thinking and thinking hard for a new name, although I like Panetta she's just not sticking with me the name is just not right for what I have in mind.

So I've come up with some others...

Tinks
Pippa or Pips or Pippy
Gigs

Any of those will fit me great, what's your 2 cents?

Panetta,
I've been there back when I was an auguste my name was rusty, I never cared for it. Work in being the clown. You will grow into your name or you will outgrow it. Panetta isn't bad.Would you still be keeping the Pickle pants bit? Penelope/Penny isn't terrible. Keep looking. Work on your costume, makeup, and Character. Your name will come.
Best of luck!

I wondered about my name also when I started earlier this year...

I had children and parents alike having trouble pronouncing it. I started to wonder if it would be a problem, because I wanted something that was funny, that people would remember.

I kept working with it though...because it was something that I felt worked well for me. I could remember it, and I had even made a little patter when kids asked me my name, and I pointed to my big yellow tie ( I need to make more of those in different colors) with the letters proudly ironed on.

" Look, it's right here, B I P S....it was BIBBS before, but part of the last B fell off, and I never got around to fixin' it.....you don't have any extra red thread, do ya? "

BIPS is a little lazy, forgetful, and a procrastinator, so it plays into what my character would normally do. Hehehe...I said that was normal.....now ain't that a hoot!

But seriously (for just a moment) ...

I think that no one can really choose your character name for you. It has to be something that you feel is right, and works with your character. One of the first things I learned at Mooseburger on the road I went to in March was character development.

How would you describe Panetta? Her habits? Her Likes? Dislikes?

I got a piece of paper, and scribbled out the basic traits for BIPS, and I'm discovering new things about this character every day.

(Serious time pause)

I even discovered that BIPS L O V E S Mountain Dew and Snickers when he was writing up his newsletter!

(Serious time unpaused)

Really though, it's been a wonderful time learning about the character I'm playing, and I hope your adventure is as enjoyable as mine has been.

As far as a vote for the name, I like TINKS for two reasons.

1) It's short, to the point, and has great rythming possibilities...

2) It's the first name you listed, and from a psychological standpoint, that's very important.

GOOD LUCK!

Thanks Scruffy and Bips for the great advice.

About my Clown, she's a very nutty Auguste, who is a prankster, a little clumsy, she is the type of Clown who at a meal will toss a pea in the air and catch it with her mouth, she also is very neat and somewhat of a clean freak.

I like Tinks too Bips... My favorite all time movie is "Hook" with "Robin Williams" hence "Tink" is what he calls Julia Roberts (Tinkerbell) in the movie. I even thought of carrying some "fairy dust" on me (confetti) but calling it something else of course, not fairy dust, because well I'm not a fairy. (I'm afraid of flying)

I've also thought as part of a skit for kids where I trip and fall and can't get up unless the kids clap really really loud (hence when a fairy falls down dead children's clapping will bring her back!)

Oh ideas ideas!

Thanks again for the advice! Off to change my name and start my website!

Tinks!

Dear Panetta...

Don't worry about your name... Like any clowns... Yours costume, make-up, and name... (like other things) will be combine with your inner clown...

Enjoy your ride through this red world.... ok???

Like me, for example... In the began, I hated my name (PICABURU)... But, nowadays I know that this name is totally compatible with my clown (a little bit clumsy.., but try to be perfect.. hehehe..) and carry this name with PRIDE...

Hugs a lot from your friend...

LOL Jobee, it takes some practice, I just made my image really big and used the paint brush on 1, and just went to work, it sure did take me about a week to do that though LOL! That's my 2nd try at it, you should have seen the first... just imagine "mimi" from The Drew Carey show lol!

Well, Howdy Tinks,

When I first started Clowning in 1990, I went by the name "Boxcar" (I liked trains) but my first trip to the WCA Convention in '93 changed all that as I met several other "Boxcar" The Clowns. I wanted to be original and was always a fan of Red Skelton's Freddy The Freeloader character so I switched to a Hobo style Clown and chose "Hayseed The Hobo".

Now, I just perform as Southwest Sam. Folks always ask where I'm from, expecting to hear Texas or Arizona. The looks on their faces are worth every bit when I reply, "Indiana" :D
Now you know they'll never forget that.

When I started using Tip Top Tom as my clown name, I would have never dreamed that some people would have a hard time reading it off my business card and sometimes call me Tip Top Clown or Tim Top Clown.

But I'll stick with it because I AM Tip Top Tom The Clown. (All my stuff is printed and props painted and webpages and email addresses sent out)

The advice I would give someone choosing a name is to make it 2 syllables.

Cookie, Bibi, Gaga, Cheeky, Fluffy, Fifi, Gurgle, Cherry, Kooky, Pasta, Dimples, Chuckles, Smirky, Blinky, are all nick names that I called my kids when they were babies and a few more that I just thought of. You can have that for free...

Tip top Tom-
I just checked out your web site. After looking at your balloons I must say I'm appalled---At what I've been making for the last twenty years! Man I have got to learn some of those!
