Could anyone suggest some good pieces of music for clown routines? How about for comedy magic routines?

I like to use calliope music. It's "happy music" and people seem to like it. Sometimes I'll put it on as I do balloons for a large crowd. Circus band music is good too. Amazon.com has a nice selection of calliope and circus music titles......Willy Nilly

Aloha, In my comedy, I use a couple of songs which I have the kids dance with me. They really like it. I open my show with "If you are happy and you know it clap your hands" then during my magic I play Splish Splash, Disco Duck, Limbo Rock and at the end of the magic show, I have the kids stand up and get in a circle and we do the Hokey Pokey and Chicken Dance. This type of music the kids love because they have learn it in school. I hope this has helped you out with some suggestions, I find most of my music in the children section of Borders Book Store. Good Look

Thanks! Great suggestions!

I've been doing a little research and come up with a few titles which may be helpful to someone:

The sound track to The Sting (with Robert Redford) called the Entertainer, by Scott Joplin

Flight of The Bumble Bee ( I found a very humourous Jazz version by Winton Marsalis ) Fast paced!

Anyone else find any more?

No matter what you do, be careful about copyright infringments. I wrote an article for Clowning Around Magazine years ago about the subject. Plus, my wife and I were part of a DVD expose about the use of copyrights and the legal restrictions places upon songs and music. If you use ANY music that is recognizable and you have not paid for the rights to use it, you can be fined. I know that the chances for most birthday party clowns is slim . . . but, if you want to be careful and legal, purchase music that is free and clear of BMI or ASCAP requirments. There are lots of those available. Just type in Royalty Free Music on your search engine and you will find lots of sources for good music.
