Hi all *waving a big toon gloved hand*

I am kinda new to clowning in general. It has only been recently that I decided to throw together a clown costume and to take a shot at doing a clown face. At the moment I am exploring clowning and have no plans to make it a business yet. I love dressing up and being silly, so clowning is something that seems to fit well with my personality. I also have some experience being a costumed character/mascot and even romped a few sci-fi cons and some big cities dressed as a bunny in tights with white facemakeup.

I love acting like a goof and I love big cartoon gloves and silly props.:)

I am very open-minded and love chatting/meeting people so feel free to pop me a line. :)

Pics of my clowning attempt so far are at www.geocities.com/sillybunnyguy

Hi Everyone!

I'm so glad to have found this forum. I've just recently started clowning. I took my youngest daughter to a party with a clown and I have to say, I think I enjoyed it more than she did. That was about a year ago and since then have been working on my own clown character. So far, I face paint, twist balloons and do some simple magic (coloring book, popcorn box w/ silks). For the first few months after deciding to become a clown and lots of practicing on my kids (which they certainly didn't mind, I did mostly face painting and have been getting quite a few jobs doing just that (not in clown). I've been reading everything I can get my hands on, filling my living room with balloon anmals and recently took a clowning class at a local junior college. I have had 2 jobs as a clown. I was completely terrified (and excited). I think they went quite well despite my nerves. I have done some volunteer work with my clown instructor also. I have to say that the skills (balloons, face paint etc) are much easier than the actual character development. I definitely need to work on that aspect I'm not sure what kind of voice to use and what kind of things to say while doing faces etc. I also need to work on a specific walk and body movements to fit my character. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I think all of you are wonderful to share your thoughts and wisdom with us newbies!!!

Welcome Gigi!

I like your initiative, you decided to become a clown, and then went out and did it. What kind of a clown are you? Whiteface, Auguste.? Really alot about what you are is in your walk. For example is your character a little girl? Then make her walk more like baby bop; small steps, almost a half skip or lida like a little girl pretending to be a ballerina.Next time you go to the mall, watch how real people walk, then try to copy some of the stranger ones.
Good luck in your quest. And please do join us for chat this evening.
Thanks,
Scruffy

Hey there!

Thanks so much for the welcome and tips! I am a whiteface clown. My costume is rather frilly and is mostly purple and pink. Hopefully I'll have a pic to share soon, I can't find the disc with my photos on it. I wouldn't say that my character is a little, little girl but definitely not an adult. I'll have to get out my daughter's Barney tapes and take a good look at Baby Bop. I'm going to try to join the chat tonite. Thanks again!
