After several months of character development and toying around with names and a biography, I find myself really liking the name Conscience the Clown which was a very early favorite for me. It seems to fit my character whose bio I continue to build and will begin sharing here shortly(after much work I both lost my earliest notes and then had a change of heart when I started noting that I would add details just to add details and didn't feel them.)

My question is just about what you all think of the name. I've had one person tell me it sounds like a "boring clown that teaches you stuff." I actually am going for a clown that teaches you some stuff, but just like every other clown I am sure I am not going for boring. Do you think kids can handle such a long name, and does it sound blah, too common, or whatever? Thanks for all your help again.

I ought to listen to you more often!

I like it. While it does carry a certain connotation of being something which gets your ears to perk up, assuming that you will bring meaning to your clowning, I also think it just sounds nice and sweet.

I don't think it is overly difficult for kids. Though you'll never know without just testing it out. Your audience will let you know for sure.

I think you are on your way. I like it also.

On a name tag I would just have "Conscience" and when you tell people your name add "the Clown." But that is a personal prefference because I like a nice clean look for a name tag that makesit easy for people to read.

If you wanted to make it easier for the kids you could spell it "Con-Chance" Heck, have two badges, one on each side of your outfit, one says "science" and the other says "chance." It would be a joke that only some of the adults would understand.

Thank you both for your advice. Tim, I will definitely try out the name with the kids.

Fitzwilly, I especially like using Con and Chance, as it solves a character dilemma which seemed to be brewing. As evidenced by the name and what I had posted earlier I have an adventurer type hobo clown in the works, one who really spends a lot of time helping others and making friends. There's more to it, but I won't go on and on here, at least not for now. The point is that I wanted to incorporate some gags with magic and juggling that involved trickery where Conscience always gets caught. But I couldn't figure out that played with a character whose name is Conscience and who seems to be trying to do the right thing. Conscience is eclectic though, and a paradoxical sort(more for the adults) so the use of Con kind of helps there.

Thank you. I look forward to sharing more ideas in the future.

I don't think the name is too long. If it fits your character, then it is a great name. Only time will tell how kids will react and if they have any mispronunciations of your name. Sometimes I think it is fun to have a really, really long name and end by saying, but my friends just call me Chance.
