Once again, I’m after good dance routines that the parents will know, love and want to join in with.

Woops (up side yo head)
Startrekking
Etc.

Also looking for a few of the newer routines like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-cyzVCx2Z0c (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-cyzVCx2Z0c)

I don't know if the popular songs are the same on both sides of the pond. Here, you could add

hokey pokey
YMCA

Hokey pokey is good.

I vote for the Cha Cha Slide. You ever seen a group of three clowns "Criss Cross" in big, floppy shoes?

It's inherently clowny.

The chicken dance is an extremely popular choice in my neck of the woods. Speaking of dancing, you guys familiar with Wally Boag?! HOLY COW! Youtube him, you won't be sorry. The guy's AMAZING!

Calavera, What is the soulja boy dance??? Is there a website for this or are you joking? It's pretty neat though as most of the dances mentioned I know. Happy clowning! Sunny:D

"Father Abraham" is a good one and it can be used in a Christian Setting or Not and it still works... It has fun movements that go along with it ... Its sort of a callout/action type of song.

Christian Version:
Father Abraham had many sons
Many sons had father abraham
I am one of them(Point to yourself) and so are you(Point to everyone else)
So lets all praise the Lord

Right arm! Left Arm!

Ch. and etc...

repeating that chorus after each set of movements.

Right Foot! Left Foot! Bend your knees! Nod your head! Shake your Tush(bum)! Turn around! Sit Down! Be Quiet!!

For it to work in any setting just change a few words.

Father Abraham Had many Sons
Many Sons had father Abraham
ANd they Didn't Laugh
And they Didn't Cry
Instead they went like this!
RIGHT ARM! LEFT ARM .....etc.

yeah, but, I don't think the parents really want you to "Super Soak That Hoe" at their kids party. Just a guess.

Yeah…. The sexual connotations of super soaking hoes at a kids party wouldn’t go down too well over here, but that being said, nor would any religious lyrics. In my sons class of 30 there is only one practicing Christian and I would say that out of the hundreds of people I know there are maybe 4 or 5 faith followers. The first mention of religion over here and people tend to think you’re preaching and head for the door.

I spent out on a good quality professional system with an 1800W amp and huge speakers, so now I can do weddings and outdoor events too. I decided to get a wireless headset microphone so I can lead all the dances and so far I’ve been having fun with:

Superman (my favourite)
Cotton Eye Joe
Cha Cha Slide
Whoops Up Side Your Head
Follow the leader (this one is great)
Steps 5,6,7,8
Macarena
Fast Food Song
Time Warp
Purple People Eater

Ah, they can get over it. How many children are going to know what that means, anyway?

Maybe this version will go over better?
Bring your Jewish humor with you when you watch this one.

I know this is an old thread. I see mention of ooops upside your head. Do people really teach this at kids parties? I am just curious, it is fun but I'm not sure if even the "clean version" wouldn't be objected to. Anyone who teach it have any suggestions?

Glad you bumped it professor cause I love music and was curious so I listened to a few mentioned. I listened to Ooops upside your head by Gap band. Don't think I would play it with the suggestive lyrics. I really don't even like Macarena for that same fact. Even Cotton Eye Joe has the word h - e double toothpicks in it. You can be alot safer with children's music. Mr. Al's album Kids Rock Too has some remakes on some 60's and 70's music that he has cleaned up that are cute. http://www.mralmusic.com/www.mralmusic.com/Album_Song_and_Video_Listings.html.
I use the hokey pokey and at christmas the reindeer pokey version. Jack Hartman also has a cute reggie version of it too. I love his Alligator Chomp! I also like Greg and Steve's version of Chicken Dance. It is longer and has some fingerplays added into it. Did anyone mention the Mexican Hat Dance, or the Bunny Hop. Anybody remember Ballin the Jack. I like this version kind of 50's ish http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nH-h4ykDtpU&feature=related

I'd like to thank you for your response. I liked that ballin the jack. I am going to check into those other cd's. I still struggle with my clowning, but I sure do love learning and teaching different activities. Thanks again so much...and yes, I like that gap band version(and I found a kids version, but they completely took out the dance stuff....so not sure how it'd all work out...) Bye for now!
