View Full Version : Balloon gags needed
Anonymous 04-16-2004, 03:01 PM So currently I am looking for new gags involving balloon animals to add to my performance,..
it is very slapstick oriented and adult,
( in the sense that we perform in a nightclub and not to children,.. not in the naked and obscene sense,.. though we are nto beyond that), so normal precautions about what we don't want to encourage children to do with balloons can be left aside.
I already do the balloon sword swallower gag and have a number of other gags i'm workign in,.. but I'm lookign for new ones,.. or old ones I just havent heard of that I could alter to fit what I want to do,..
I already know the color change balloon,.. and cant really use that,..
anyone else know anygood ones?
or how to make a giant mallet out of 260's?

Anonymous 04-16-2004, 03:01 PM Try taking a Squeeker out of a toy and putting it in your mouth. Blow up a round balloon and keep holding it in front of your face. Let the air out of the balloon slowly, but don't let the balloon make the noise. Instead make the noise with the squeeker in your mouth. Let all of the air out of the balloon but continue to make the noise with your mouth.
I do this just to watch people's reactions. At first they look annoyed at the noise, then when the balloon runs out of air they look confused for a few seconds then they start to laugh.
You know what I always say.
He who laughs last... thinks slowest.

Anonymous 04-16-2004, 03:02 PM 1--You can also use a mosquito buzzer ( a small plastic buzzer that fits in your mouth)- they sell them at most magic/novelty shops around here. (Milwaukee) buzz while it's deflating, keep buzzing once deflated, stretch it out buzz louder, look suprised or scared stomp on the balloon w/ your foot-stop buzzing while your foots over the balloon, lift your foot up start buzzing again etc, etc. this bit can be pretty funny if you use the right facial expresions/comic movement.
2-- Use a volunteer for any bit-- when your done make them a pair of balloon lips put the lips on them, pose them in a funny pose and give them a BIG kiss on the balloon lips.
3--- 260's are as easy to balance as peacock feathers, w/ a little practice(like 2 minutes) you can easily balance an inflated 260 on your nose, taking this a step further, you can twist several together and balance a 10-15 ft.long balloon sculpture on your nose(if the ceilings are high enough) it looks really impressive--- just don't let them know how easy it is.
Almost Amazing Gerry
TipTopTom 09-11-2004, 12:14 AM Whether or not you can mouth blow, you can do this one:
Try to blow up the 260Q (or any long balloon)
You are unable to do it.
Suggest that maybe you'll stretch it out a bit.
Stretch it out in front of you and make some faces amazed at how veeerrryyyy streeeeetchyyyy it is. And make a few comments to that effect.
Then you say that you'll have to let go of the left hand. SMACK! It hits you in the right hand! HOWL HOWL!
"Silly me!" (stretch it again) "I should have let go of the other end!" SMACK into your left hand. HOWL HOWL!
Finally you try to blow it up unsuccessfully and so you stretch it out once more. this time holding one end near your mouth with your palm open so when you SMACK it this time is lands on your palm. But you can ham it up as if you got hit in the eye!
Remember NO drama. You don't want them to beleive that you are injured! A big loud YEAOUCH always works to get them laughing.
Immediately switch the balloon for one with the end cut off. If you blow through it with one hand holding loosely 2 to 3 inches from the cut end it makes a very funny sound.
THIS IS A GOOD GAG! WORKS EVERY TIME!
PLEASE SHARE YOURS!

Gilbert 09-14-2004, 04:00 PM A variation on the squeeky ballon idea is to make a swazzle (used by 'Punch and Judy' Puppeteers to get Punche's voice) Place it in your mouth, blow up the balloon (take your time and emphasise the difficulty by openning your eyes and building pressure in your face etc) and move the swazzle into position and speak through it immedeatly after blowing up the balloon. This gag never fails to get a laugh when I do it. Thinking about it, you could just put on a squeeky voice to get a similar effect.
Scruffy 09-14-2004, 04:38 PM Sounds Cool Gilbert. Where do you get a swazzle?
Gilbert 09-15-2004, 06:49 PM I tend to make my own. You will find instructions at 'Punch and Judy on the Web' http://www.punchandjudy.com/swazzle.htm
By the way I use plastic from old plastic credit cards or calling cards of that style. It doesn't get that 'professional Punch voice' but it does work and it's easier to obtain and work with.
Well, I gave it a try, but I think the material I used for the tape wasn't good quality.
I probably try it again, but I decided to attempt this at a rather late hour for me.
Any suggestions besides using the plastic credit cards, Gilbert?
Gilbert 09-21-2004, 12:07 PM I tend to bend the plastic a little and I use the cotton tape used for hemming when sewing. It is important to use cotton tape. Other kinds of tape do not work as well. You will also need to adjust the gap between the pieces of credit card until you get a good tone (or it works at all). I found that I had to keep the tape tight when making the swazzle and then part the two pieces of credit card apart at the centre by bending them slightly. Remember the swazzle must be wet before it will work properly. As for substitutes for the credit card plastic I can only suggest using the materials recomended by Punch and Judy website. I have not experimented with other materials. I would guess and material that is thin and flexable should do the trick.
