View Full Version : My new Costume!
Miss Petunia 05-01-2008, 03:31 PM I have finished my costume!! I used a pattern from Simplicity for Raggedy Ann. Any feed-back or suggestions are welcome. I think I will make a bow for my head and some little ones for the apron. I still haven't settled on a clown name yet, so suggestions on that are welcome too.

Scruffy 05-01-2008, 03:42 PM Looks great, Carrie! If you are Going to do hospital Clowning, Why not Care-E
pixcoco 05-01-2008, 06:56 PM Really, really nice job. You might like it if you shortened the pantaloons a little and let your shoes (and maybe even your socks) show.
You are darling.
Miss Petunia 05-01-2008, 07:06 PM I am actually thinking about shortening up the whole thing. I had to take in the shoulders about three inches. I am only 5 feet 4 inches, and since everything is made for five foot ten models, welll......
I have some reddish pink heart buttons I might use to embellish on the pockets and where the apron straps would button.
Thank-you for all your comments, I welcome them.
I am thinking of the clown name "Petunia" I only found one petunia on the forum and she hasn't visited in three years!
Oh, or maybe "Flora" I like the flowers on the my costume and I think it should be pretty easy to incorporate flowers into every costume in the future.

CheckerZ 05-01-2008, 07:33 PM Looks great!!! Dido to coco, shorten it up. :)
I have some reddish pink heart buttons I might use to embellish on the pockets and where the apron straps would button.
My initial thought was "too much red" without anything to break it up. These sort of embellishments might be just the thing which would allow you to maintain that Raggety Ann sensibility while giving it just enough extra decoration to keep it interesting.
Nettie Belle 05-01-2008, 10:52 PM You look cute, Carrie. And your children are adorable. They love their clowny mom.
After you shorten it, I think you will be more comfortable, but I think you have a very cute look. Nice job!:applause:
One thing ... if I were you, I think pulling your wig down some and your skull cap up, so the only thing you see is the wig.
I am very partial to Petunia ... my friend who just passed away recently was Petunia. I know she would be very happy to know someone else is using that name now.
BlossomTheClown 05-02-2008, 01:18 AM Nice job, Carrie! Your outfit is very cute and girly (and Blossom loves girly). I agree with the others about shortening your costume too, bloomers included ... so you can show a little leg (woo hoo!). I think shortening it will also draw the eyes up to your cute face too.
I agree with Nettie Belle on pulling the wig down and the skull cap up. If it's a tight fit you may be able to use pantyhose cut up for a skull cap so it is thinner. That's what I had to do with a previous wig. My skull cap just didn't let me bring the wig down to cover it up well enough.
Great job! Cute kids! Oh, and I like the name Petunia too ... a cute Pink Petunia you are.
Miss Petunia 05-02-2008, 06:11 AM Thanks for all the feed back. I think I will use Petunia as a clown name, I remember my mom or grandma calling me that a couple times as a kid, someone did anyways.
About the wig, I might be getting a different style of wig, because without a skull cap, my hair line show by my ears. I have a big noggin. I am thinkin about getting a Cindy style wig in Bubblegum color, but that will have to wait a while.

Miss Petunia 05-05-2008, 05:50 PM Another question, I am going to make a big bow for the top of my head. Which print should I use, the pink I used for the dress, or the red from the apron and bloomers? I have plenty left over of each, and I bought some 1 inch foam to stuff it with. (I am leaning toward the pink)

Finito 05-05-2008, 06:16 PM Wonderful costume!!! Looks splendid! As for the bow in the wig, I would recommend a contrasting color. Pink on pink would not do you justice, the pink bow would become lost - visually speaking - in the wig.
:applause:
pixcoco 05-05-2008, 07:36 PM I think the little blue bows in your hair are a nice contrast. If you put blue in your hair, on your pockets and on your shoes or socks it would give you a nice complete look. Three colors make a nice balance and three places if sort standard. I guess the rule of threes is the best rule of all.
Nettie Belle 05-05-2008, 07:53 PM My vote is for the print for your hairbow. Or, keep the blue ones you are now using and wear a little hat. I don't think the pink from your pinafore will show up much in your hair. You sure look cute.
Miss Petunia 05-08-2008, 08:36 PM Here is my shortened costume! I also tried pigtails instead of braids. Comments and suggestions welcome!
Petunia
P.S. My kitty is at my feet in the picture checking me out, his tail always gets poffy when he spies me in clown. Even my wigs on the plastic head freaks him out a little.

Nettie Belle 05-08-2008, 08:42 PM You look adorable, PETUNIA.
Fitzwilly 05-09-2008, 12:22 AM I think that is a big improvement all around. I like the look with the pigtails.
Scruffy 05-09-2008, 07:27 AM By Jove, I think she's got it!
Carrie, It looks great! I like the pig tails better than the braids. I would suggest a pair of striped socks, maybe in purple so that you aren't showing skin.
I think you look great. Also don't feel bad, my cat gets freaked when I'm in makeup too!
Cheers,
Scruffy
Miss Petunia 05-09-2008, 08:31 AM Great minds think alike Scruffy, I was thinking white and purple striped socks to go with my bow.
Carrie
pixcoco 05-09-2008, 10:40 AM WOW...your not in your mamas clothes any more. That looks GREAT.
I agree with the purple strip sock idea. and if you are still going to put something on your pockets I would use the purple also.
Pickles 05-09-2008, 12:36 PM It's really come together, Petunia. The bow is the perfect touch--I love it!
My cats only freaked out the first couple times they saw me as a clown. The husband, on the other hand, still hasn't gotten used to me!
Miss Petunia 05-09-2008, 01:40 PM My husband doesn't know what to think either!
BlossomTheClown 05-10-2008, 01:38 AM My husband didn't know what to think either at first and then I think he just decided to learn to live with a clown. My dog, on the other hand, has never looked at me oddly ... she knows it's her mommy no matter what I look like.
The outfit looks wonderful Petunia! I love the bow and the idea of the purple and white striped socks too. Great job!
