I think I have a burnt-out battery in one of my D'lites. Does anybody know the procedure for changing the battery? Should I just take tweezers and yank the whole mechanism out? Please advise me on this; I'm afraid I'm going to break it.

eeuuww. That is a tough one.

Yes you can pull it out. Why worry about breaking it if it is already not working. Once you get it out you will find it all glued together. Unless they have changed the way they make them. Mine was the little metal wire was broken off. I tried to make a new one and fiddled with it for days before I gave up. After that when one would go out I would just buy a new one. They lasted for years and that was with A LOT of use while I worked the hospital. It is great to play with the o2 sensorers on the fingers.

So if you have more patients than money go ahead and yank away. I guess I have little of either.

good luck

FYI: Bob from LaRock's just e-mailed to say that the batteries in D'Lites are not meant to be replaced and that it's best to just buy a new one. I will probably attempt it anyway -- what do I have to lose?

No, check that little guarantee that you got in the box. They replace them. I've yet to do it, but many magicians have told me that is the case.

Oh, I've had them for awhile. I bet they only replace them if they're fairly new. I'm cheap enough to check though. :D

No, I think there is a lifetime guarantee on them. I think so, at least. Don't worry, Rocco can afford it ;)

I just got me a set, and you have to send the tips to...
D'Lite Products, Inc.
540 Ravine Court
Wyckoff, NJ 07481 USA
If your sending one you have to send the thumb tip, with a check or money order for $7.50 or for two it's $9.90.
Hope this helps.

Wow, that's still cheaper than buying a new one. I'll have to see if I can find my D'Lite instructions. Thanks!

Hi,
I recently had success replacing the battery on one of my D'lite's. The battery type is a standard round 2025 lithium battery that can be found at Wal-Mart or any drug store.

The battery and LED assembly is held in place by a big glob of wax-like material near the tip. I got a steak knife and began prying underneath the wax at the bottom of the thumbtip one side at a time, being careful not to touch the D'lite battery/LED assembly. I finally worked my way to the tip of the thumb, and once that felt loosend, I got a pair of needle nose pliers, caught the outer edge of the battery and gently removed the entire assembly, wax and all.

The LED is sandwiched around the battery by two small wires.
The top wire is not attached to the battery and is free-floating,
with a small black piece of insulator-like material for your thumb to activate the light. The bottom wire, however, is permanently soldered to the numbered underside of the battery. I tried to de-solder the wire, but was afraid of burning out the LED from the heat of the soldering iron, so I simply got a pair of small diagonal cutting pliers and snipped the wire off just below the original soldered area, leaving the two wires and the LED in one piece.
I then soldered the small pigtail of the bottom wire I just cut to the numbered side of the battery, positioned the top wire on the opposite side of the new battery, replaced the wax over the LED, and secured it in the original thumbtip with double-sided tape.
It now works like a charm. Hope this helps.
