Hello my clownbuddies!

I 've asked you before about some ideas on a pattern - colors for my new clown costume and after a lot of searching on the internet ths result is the one you see in the pictures.

This costume was sewed by two 60yo greek ladies who usually sew dresses for weddings etc.It was the first time that they have ever done this and the pattern was taken from a photo I found.

So, what do you think?Your feedback is valuable!

Thank you very much!

It looks very well put together.

The pants do appear somewhat short. Which is fine for a clown. But are they really that short? You're going to use high colorful socks to complement, I suppose?

Tim the pants is not short. It 's that I am a short guy!!! :) :) My mother should have married a tall guy!!! :)

Thanks!

Thank you all of you!

I use a sponge nose cause it is difficult to buy a professional nose from the USA.I ll try to find a supplier of pro noses in Europe.

I love the outfit. You put those two 60 year olds to work and start selling stuff on Ebay and you'll be a rich man.

Honestly, they did a wonderful job.

I wish I had your clown - magic suppliers here! :):):)

I 'll let the seamstresses know that you liked the costume. They ll get so much happy cause it is the first time they have ever done this. They usually sew dresses, suits etc.But they got so excited when I told them that I would like to have a costume sewed and promised me that they would do their best.

Of course as I can see they did their best!I m gonna wear it for the first time on a gig at a greek island next week!

Well, Kleanthis, you know what they say:
"It's better to have loved a short person and lost him than never to have loved a tall."

Kleanthis man, this is great stuff.I have to get my self made a new summer costume and I am still trying to decide on the cut that I will use. I come from Croatia and temperatures here are as high as in Greece during the summer,so I think I am going to go for as less layers of cloth as possible. I wonder, what do you all think about clowns in short sleeves?

tim
05-31-2008, 11:09 AM
That costume looks GREAT!

If I had only one slight critique it would be that the hair and hat are so similar in color that they tend to blend. If there were a way to make it contrast a little better, I think it could be good. But even as it is, it's pretty cool.

I sometimes use short sleeves. My reason for this is that I juggle and I want sleeves out of the way so as not to interfere. So you see hair on my arms. But, so what? I mean, if your character can't carry you to the point that people aren't so concerned about stuff like that, then you have more important things to work on than costuming.

I always wear my tape measure watch (available from Daytona Magic or David Ginn).

You ask the kids if they know what time it is, pull out the tape measure and say "Oh, it's 26 inches after the hour."

You are in Europe, but you're in luck; there's metric on the other side!

Then you push the little button in the middle of the watch, the tape retracts, and you say, "Time flies."

Of course, it doesn't tell real time, but it's so much fun -- who cares?

well, a classic bit with the American clowns has always been the alarm cloc wrist watch. Like this:

http://i11.ebayimg.com/07/i/000/f3/2e/73cb_1.JPG

The back of the clock is removed by means of usually three screws on the back, and removing the stems and keys from the back. from there, you can attach an elastic band and fasten it to the case for a wrist stranp.
Good Luck, and a really Great Costume!
Cheers,
Scruffy

I've never seen this as a problem and from what I can tell neither have any of the people that I have entertained.... I often wear shortsleeves or atleast a 3/4 length sleeve as RD... The only time I think showing the arms isn't acceptable is for a whiteface clown... If you're a whiteface then try to keep as much skin as possible white.

BUt they do make long sleeved underarmour type shirts... which when worn with a pair of gloves should look decent under a short sleeved shirt... the material is made to wic away sweat and keep you cooler...

I think the costume is great. Like Tim if the hat were a different color, red or green to go along with your colors is would stand out more.

As far as sleeves go, When I'm performing as Sue white face I do have long sleeves, But not when I'm Sally, my auguste [to hot] but I made sleeves that can velcro in to the short sleeve if it's cold and I want to wear them.

The outfit looks great, K. Love the thumbnail. Daisy says that your makeup looks even better there than on the avatar - it looks like your smile is up a bit, and you look like a happier clown.

I have to wear long sleeves because I have tats on both arms. But being a Hobo makes it easy for me.

That would be great but one of them is an early 1960 U.S. Navy "Hula Girl sans top" and yes she does dance. And being in Clown I don't show my bare arms, don't want to infulence any kids.

Hey Will - just get the year you get the tattoo. Then for the rest of your life you will have people ask you why you have 2009 on your arm and you can tell them, it reminds you when you got your tattoo.

I think your costume looks fantastic on you and was very well designed.

I also love the uniqueness of your hat with the globe on top. That said, I'm wondering if, perhaps, some sort of better contrast can be effected from costume (with the yellow predominating) to wig (yellow) to hat (yellowish.) Somewhere in there maybe the introduction of another color to better balance things out could be worthwhile. I also don't know if I like the fact that your mouth and eye lining colors are different. On the one hand, I think it brightens your face and adds variety. On the other, it tends to make a face more unifying when the outlines are the same color.

I like your hat, unique, and neat outfit

I agree with your statements for a new nose.
