View Full Version : Rubber Chickens
Finito 05-28-2008, 11:56 AM Good afternoon, Everyone. I'm looking for some top-notch rubber chickens. I was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction. The common oriental trading/I-party chickens are miserable... archie mcphee seems to make a decent one. Anyone have any other suggestions?
Pickles 05-28-2008, 12:55 PM One year Santa brought me one of those rubber chickens that emits a piercing, blooding-curdling scream when you squeeze it. (I think he got it at Spencer Gifts). That's my favorite "talking" rubber chicken, but maybe that's not what you want.
I just ran down to the clown room to take inventory of my rubber chickens. Most of them are the kind you can fold up and pull out of your sleeve, but they don't say who their manufacturer is. They seem like pretty well-constructed birds, although I'm not sure what differentiates a cheap Oriental Trading rubber chicken from a top-notch, quality one. I think the ones you get from Clown Antics or any other clown shop are fine.
What are you going to do with it?
Finito 05-28-2008, 01:02 PM Primarily, modify for use as juggling props. I had a great rubber chicken about 10 years ago, hand-painted, with bulging rubber eyes... really nice, but my ferret ate it. Crazy ferret. It disappeared, i found it some months later half-eaten in her cache with various socks and assorted cat crunchies. Wish i had thought to write down the manufacturer, I remember it being molded into the chicken.
Pickles 05-28-2008, 01:05 PM Crazy ferret indeed!
Those little squishy rubber chickens might be nice for juggling, although not as visible from a distance.
Finito 05-28-2008, 01:09 PM I'm looking for something with a lot of visibility! I did come across some nice rubber fish and even a rubber pig! I may have to order these! Hahahahaha!
Fitzwilly 05-28-2008, 07:33 PM Loftus manufactures the "Original Rubber Chicken" which sells for about $10. That might be good enough for what you need.

Christopher Clown 05-28-2008, 08:51 PM Pickles ... my rubber chicken used to make the same scream however I loaned him to my local theatre for a show and someone did something that silenced him... I wish they hadn't.

Rubber chicken abuse...TERRIBLE!!
Fitzwilly 05-28-2008, 09:18 PM Have you tried putting the batteries back in?
Christopher Clown 05-28-2008, 09:24 PM mine wasn't battery operated... you just squeezed him and due to the air going through the throat he squaked...
I guess silence is a virtue... He always whispers to me. And I do get a kick out of telling people why he is so shy... Its because he is afraid of Col. Sanders.
... "The other day I asked Col. Sanders,'Why did the chicken cross the Road?' Col. Sanders, replied saying 'You mean I missed one????'"
Pickles 05-28-2008, 09:26 PM Is that the chicken you were smooching in your old avatar?
Christopher Clown 05-28-2008, 09:32 PM why yes... That is Howard... however he wasn't smooching me... he was moreorless attacking my nose...

On a side note this is an interesting game of forum tag that we are playing.
Pickles 05-28-2008, 10:24 PM Thanks for refreshing my memory.
Happy Chappy & Daisy 06-02-2008, 01:07 AM I almost forgot I had this picture - I don't remember where I found it. It was on the internet, if that helps...
Pickles 06-02-2008, 06:07 PM I just read in a different thread that somebody was looking for a "clowny wife." Maybe all they need is a life-sized rubber chicken!
Wow, is THAT cool! I know what I'm asking for from Santa this year.
Happy Chappy & Daisy 06-02-2008, 08:34 PM If I remember right, it was billed as a "rubber chicken," but it was really made of yellow fabric. If anybody is handy with a sewing machine...
Happy Chappy & Daisy 06-03-2008, 12:35 AM Would you believe I actually ran across it without even looking for it?

Fitzwilly 06-03-2008, 01:03 AM All right Happy... HOW do you you just happen to "run across" a giant rubber chicken "without even looking for it?"
Happy Chappy & Daisy 06-03-2008, 01:19 AM I googled "clown props," and there it was! I wasn't specifically looking for "giant rubber chickens."
Okay, it's not like I was looking for "Kennedy Center National Opera" and found it, but still, I just stumbled across it. Must be these big shoes...

Who needs a blow up clown when you have a life sized rubber chicken.
SPRINKLES 08-03-2008, 10:45 PM Did you ever think of looking in a few dog supply books? Try pet edge or fosters and smith.

For a spouse or a rubber chicken?
Pickles 08-04-2008, 12:37 PM Two years ago I got the screaming rubber chicken in my Christmas stocking. I'm definitely putting the farting chicken on my wish-list for this year. It's never too early to start dreaming!
Bingle 08-04-2008, 11:46 PM I work at the hospital on the Fort Campbell Army post, home of the 101st Airborne Division, known as the "Screaming Eagles". When the folks I was teaching how to clown "graduated", I gave each of them a screaming rubber chicken!

Perry Noia 08-27-2008, 06:56 PM Wow... as happy as I was with the selection and prices on that website, shipping to Canada TRIPLED the price of my order... I guess I need a closer supplier than that, 'cause going from $30 to $90 is just not a good deal.
Looks good for people in the US though.
Bizzy 08-29-2008, 09:10 PM If you are going on a plane trip, be sure to pack a rubber chicken in case they search your bags. I went on a trip a few months ago and considered packing one but decided against it when I was packing and the bag was filling up. I was so disappointed when I was searched at the airport. An opportunity missed!
Governor of Florida in 1682 08-29-2008, 09:23 PM I'll bet my fake TNT would make a big hit in the search line. Got to have it for explaining the fastest way to blow up a balloon.
Prestige 08-30-2008, 06:09 PM I don't know where to get top notch rubber chickens, generally bog-standard rubber chickens are just as good, I have two cheap ones I bought from a second hand store 4 years back, they're great for clowning and one squeaks when you punch it!
