Anyone ever see this site? The Marionettes are amazing and the attention to detail is just phenomenal. Even some of the really nice ones are reasonably priced, in terms of marionettes. Give it a look if you are looking for a companion to your show :)
Happy Chappy & Daisy 05-29-2008, 12:56 AM Wow - some beautiful work. A little pricey, but still a great deal for something so well made. I guess if you're looking for something like this, then this is exactly what you're looking for.
The_Princess_of_Bozonia 05-29-2008, 01:00 AM Wow! Wonderful craftsmanship. But do they have lonely goatherds? Sorry Pickles.
Pickles 05-29-2008, 07:15 AM Oh, swell, Princess.... I finally purged my head of that annoying little ditty, and now it's back. Thanks a lot.

Ahhhhhh a clown after my own heart!!! THAT performance from Sound of Music I'm sure had a HUGE impact on me as a child since I have turned towards a career in puppetry concentrating on marionettes. I am in the process right now of creating my own marionettes to do a performance mimicking the lonely goat herder song. I actually did this song as my final song choice in my vocal class in college. I am making my goats out of mops to give it that wooly feeling. I'm off for a month long trip in July but once I get back, I will be devoting to that project full time. At least I have the designs in place. It's the building of the marionettes that take a ton of my time.
Back to the topic of the Chech marionettes. I think these are wonderful instruments for any level of puppeteer. I have been a great fan of the website mentioned for quite some time. The quality of the marionettes offered are so wonderful for the price. Also, they offer wholesale pricing if you hold a seller's license.
Aloha,
Nikole
Happy Chappy & Daisy 06-03-2008, 02:22 AM Yes, Nikole, but the problem with buying marionettes like that over the Internet...
The Czech is the mail! (Ba doom, ching!)

Interesting project! Have you seen the originals at the MacNider Art Museum (http://www.macniderart.org/baird.html)? Will the goats be able to wag their tails?
PuppetsAndPals 06-03-2008, 01:32 PM Oh of course they will have to have moving tails. That's the best part. I also will be having moving eyes which is something that I don't normally do with my marionettes but I'm up for the challenge. It just means more strings and more kinks in my fingers.
No, I have not seen the collection in person. I think that I would tear up if I ever did. I am almost finished with an elephant marionette for a show that I am doing at the end of the month that has a Bil Baird feel to it. I'll be sure to posts pictures if anyone is interested or at least have a preview of it on my youtube channel.
Aloha,
Nikole
Fitzwilly 06-03-2008, 04:33 PM We already know we are interested. Please post pictures and the youtube link.
Ichabod 10-03-2008, 11:42 PM So, I ordered one of these marionettes. However, I am a little disappointed in their level of professionalism and customer service. I have been waiting for a while now for my order to arrive and it has not. I emailed them many times only for them to be ignored. If this continues I will be disputing the charge on my CC.
Until I hear something from them or get my order, I would recommend not using this site. They have some really amazing marionettes, but they have no concept of customer service.
Friendly warning!
PuppetsAndPals 10-04-2008, 12:49 AM So sorry to hear that you have not had a good experience with this company. I often buy products from Eastern Europe and have found that communication is always difficult and it takes at least two months for me to receive my packages. I hope that is the case for your experience, too, and not that you have just been overlooked.

Me too. Although, I specifically paid more for the 7-10 day airmail time. Days keep passing, time keeps going, and I still have heard nothing!
Seems I am not the only one with an issue http://www.myczechrepublic.com/boards/viewtopic.php?p=49393
PuppetsAndPals 10-06-2008, 07:51 PM Did you check to see if the charge was put on your credit card? I know that at one time when I was dealing with an Eastern Europe purchase, I waited for two months and got nothing. I then found out that my order was not received and sure enough, my credit card was not charged. Oh I do hope it turns out to be a happy ending for you. Also because the puppets are just so gorgeous that I want to purchase from there, too. I will listen to your warning!!! Let us know the outcome and good luck!

That was how I knew my order was received, because my CC was charged pretty quickly, just when I tried to figure out what happened, I have heard nothing. I actually contacted Steve from Axtell to ask if he had known anything about this site since he had a link to them. However, he had never dealt with them and said he will remove the link if there turns out to be a problem.
Ichabod 10-11-2008, 09:29 AM So, I tried contacting them three times only to hear nothing, and since it has been much longer than the allotted time, I am going to be disputing the charge on my credit card. It is a real shame since these marionettes looked really good, but, perhaps, that is why they looked so good, because they didn't exist in the first place.
I highly recommend staying away from this site, as it seems fraudulent and nothing but a scam!
This is a little affirmation
http://www.siteadvisor.com/sites/czechmarionettes.com/
Ichabod 11-11-2008, 01:16 PM The dispute was placed and ruled in my favor. They do not respond to any emails, I have more than my share of spam after an email I send to them, and I still have not received any indication that I even bought a marionette.
Needless to say, I would NOT recommend this site and would WARN everyone to stay away.
Again, the site is Marionettes- Quality Marionettes Puppets and Collectibles (http://www.czechmarionettes.com/)
And, from what I can tell, it is nothing more than a scam. Save your money.
It is sad though, because I was really looking forward to getting those marionettes. I really wish the site was legit. :(
Ichabod 01-25-2009, 08:31 AM So, I made one final email to this company. Turns out, the original owner was having family issues and so sold it to a company called ddmen.cz of whom I am speaking to the owner. He has assured me that the site is again up and running and, as I have been greatly surprised by, my emails are being answered in a timely manner.
So, if anyone is interested in a quality marionette, now is the time, though he did say a few more are coming out in a couple of months.
Yes, they are pricey, but these are professional marionettes. I cannot but help to want to get one now :)

jimdevo 09-04-2010, 11:48 AM Hello,
I have a follow-up on the Czech Marionette website. Marek Schwarz is the current owner and they are legit. I ordered the large Jester marionette that has moving eyes and a stick-out tongue. He is large (28 in.) and expensive. They only take PayPal at the moment. During the buying phase I had lots of questions and Marek answered all of them quickly and promised to send a tracking number. He even dropped the shipping charge to free. As soon as I send the funds however, I did not hear from him.....for days. I sent 2 emails and got no reply. Finally after about 3 days he sent me an email with apologies for the delays both in communication and in shipping. BUT he also sent the tracking number. Its headed to the USA now. I'll post photos when it arrives. Thanks.
