View Full Version : Balloon Sponge Bob
Wowza 06-17-2008, 01:08 PM I have a special request for Thursday, and need a Sponge Bob balloon.
Any ideas? I saw a Sponge Bob hat on balloon-animals.com, but it was just a picture with no instructions. It looks simple enough, but I would prefer some guidance if at all possible.
Thanks in advance.
pixcoco 06-17-2008, 02:30 PM Do you know how to do a flat weave? I do that for the body and just change the colors as I come to the shirt and pants. Then use a 160 for the arms and another one for the legs. I make eyes with a bit of white and the end of a yellow for the nose. The rest of the detail I do with markers.
I wish I understood how to take pics and put them here. It would make explaining it easier.
Wowza 06-17-2008, 03:07 PM I've been checking out Stretch the Balloon Dude's web site (http://www.stretchc.com/). He has a version that I like, and it seems easy enough. I'm going to attempt his tonight. I'll let you know how it comes out.
Any other tips, instructions or suggestions would be most welcome, though.

Wowza 06-19-2008, 08:26 AM So, for anyone interested, I worked up a Spongebob based on a photo from Stretch the Balloon Dude's website. For my first attempt, and considering I was trying to twist based on a picture, I'm pretty pleased with how it came out. Pictures are on my Flickr site. Your comments are most welcome.

Fitzwilly 06-19-2008, 11:43 AM I think you did a pretty good job. It looks fairly quick after you make a few and work the mental kinks out. And it is large, looks like what about 15 to 18 inches tall? That is going to impress the clients.
Wowza 06-19-2008, 02:23 PM Fitz,
I'd be happy if I never made another one again.
Most of my co-workers know that I clown on the side. Occasionally, I will get asked to make balloons for birthday decorations of cubicles. Other times, after particularly stressful weeks, I'll bring my balloon stuff in on a Friday and twist some for co-workers.
I got asked on Tuesday if I could make something for a birthday on Thursday. I asked what I should make and Spongebob was one of the choices. I honestly thought I'd be able to find some directions online, but I couldn't. So I did the best I could based on the photo. To her credit, Duckie stepped up and emailed some directions, but I had already completed him by the time I got them.
He is about 21" tall. I wasted a lot of balloons making him, and I would definitely need to tweak it if I was going to be making him more often. The weird thing is that you need to start with the shirt, and attach the head after. Everything else is pretty simple. I just misused my scraps and didn't make parts (ie: arms, legs and shoes) appropriately, hence the waste.
Ty-Me 06-19-2008, 03:24 PM Wowza I think it looked great to do it off of picture!
Fifi D. Clown 06-19-2008, 07:38 PM I know it's a little late, but here is a picture of Spongebob made with the the weave. Coco (Pixcoco) made it and showed me how. This is Coco's because mine not quite as "realistic". It takes time, but is a stunner!
