Of course... you all will be the first to know if I hear anything...

(And if you get in, you'll send some backstage passes to your old friend, right?)

Well I just have to see if I can get in first lol... But if God is smiling down on me and for some miraculous reason I do happen to get accepted, I'd definately see what I could do lol.

Last year I had the chance to meet Tim Holst, Ringling's top talent scout. I asked him for his advice on clowning. He replied, simply and straightforward, "BE FUNNY!" As long as you're that, I'm sure you've got a shot.

Very cool, Dazzle. I'm so proud of you.

It's so fun to hear the voice of a Clown Forum buddy -- nice southern twang! :D Loved the bird routine with all of the different bird rhymes.

I tend to be a little more "Southern" as RD... Not so much as when I'm a "Normal person"... But it does slightly slip out when I'm at home lol.

Alright, just a couple more thoughts of constructive critique.

Firstly, I think that this could be a great promo video even for local work. It really gives a great idea of how versatile you are. I also enjoyed watching the makeup application.

That said, I don't know that Ringling is looking for clowns who can do mismade flag. And while demonstration of such things certainly does illustrate your comedic sense (which is good), I think that anything else you could do to highlight other aspects of your talent which could be useful to a show like Ringling would be helpful. So, if you show interaction in performance with juggling or some extra physical comedy, or whatever it could be a plus which would make the offering all that much better.

Also, while the references to "Clown College" and "Ringling/Dingling" are cute, I'm guessing that they may not look favorably on what they could consider trademark infringement.

wouldn't that just mean they were self centered tim?

Not necessarily. They have a right to protect their property and titles. If everyone went around copying them, then how could we be certain of what was actually the real deal?

I like the satire of "Dingling", actually, for common usage.

Though I, personally, wouldn't jest about having attended "Clown College." That has too specific of a meaning when understood for what the Ringling School was - apart from the more general concept of having received some sort of clown schooling that the general public tends to associate it with. Even employed as a joke, it could be easily misunderstood and get one in trouble for false representation.

oh & Rd i think your way better then I am but then again i think that with everyone

Willace, you are definitely better with balloons than I am!

& i keep forgeting you have a grate middle name my full name is William Louis Harris Jr.

With a name like that, you ought to be king!

I have to agree with Pickles, you sound nothing like I expected. Why no sound during the makeup process? some fast piano circus would be great here. Poor canary :(

Christopher Clown

Sir Tooney... There is sound in the real version ... for some reason when my friend uploaded it on youtube the music and the background narration during the slideshow didn't transfer... I think she has the new ones on now and I'll post them in a min. The Real version has "The Entertainer" behind them.

And well Tim, you're not the only one who has warned me about my "Dingling Joke" .... Its a funny bit that always gets a laugh when I do it in public, and its something that is 100 percent originally mine. Its one of those "Just look at yourself and laugh" type of things... You have to be able to laugh about yourself. ... or merely at a pun about yourself. Its a bit, it lasts a whole .6 seconds of the video. As far as I'm concerned it can stay.

As far as "Circus Skills" ... I don't have that many. I can juggle, I can sing, and dance, and thats about it. I put the other tricks in there just as filler to show the potential I have. Look past the trick itself. See the presentation, the stage quality of the voice, etc. Thats what I'm hoping that they will see. Hopefully they will see my potential and desire to work and learn

Dazzle, I also thought that your singing voice was lovely and that your ventriloquism was pretty good (wish I could do that). I liked it when your monkey started singing "you you you you."

There was one part in your video (can't remember where) where it looked like you did some fun little dancey clown-like jumpy thing with your legs, but I couldn't really see it since the camera focused on your upper half. I hope they will notice moves like that which seem to shout "clown."

Most importantly, I want to know what part you played in "Grease"!

Oh, I like the bit. I just don't know if potentially humorless Feld Inc. lawyers would feel the same. To them it's all big business. And a cease and desist letter rather than a contract offer from them isn't exactly the kind of mail you'd want to get in reply.

I agree about looking past the trick itself. I totally get what you're trying to show with that, and I think it is worthwhile. But I also think that what would be most useful to Ringing are things associated with your stage experience. I would highlight those to a greater degree.

Ultimately, I think it would be wise to run the video by a couple of former Ringling clowns for critique and advice before sending it off to Mr. Holst. They should have a decent understanding of what the show is looking for and what they will perceive in an audition video.

Dazzle, I also thought that your singing voice was lovely and that your ventriloquism was pretty good (wish I could do that). I liked it when your monkey started singing "you you you you." "!

Thanks thats a classic bit that I love doing.

Yeah I wish we had more room for that bit ... we had planned on fliming that outside but it rained that day :(

Most importantly, I want to know what part you played in "Grease"!

I payed a character named "Doody" he was one of the T-birds (techically called "Burger Palace Boys" in the play) I played him as the Loveable, goofy, but not so bright type.

My main song in the show was called "Magic Changes" which started out with me showing the Gang that I had been taking guitar lessons ...(but not doing so well) It started out with me strumming chords "C C C C C C A A A A MINOR F F F F G G G G SEVENTH" getting a mixed reaction from the gang... some saying I was 'pretty good...' some saying it stunk... and with Frenchy saying "Gee Doody, Can ya play 'Tell Laura I love her?'" to which I responded "I don't know .... Has It got a C in it??"

Then the spotlight hit, and it was like "Instant rockstar" the band struck up behind me, I stood up somewhat dream fantasy like, took the stage, went out into the audience, singing to people, coming back on stage with some shoobop backup Rydell Cheer Leaders and finally the fantasy came to an end with the school bell ringing and Ms Lynch coming in saying "Aren't you all supposed to be in Class???"

I also sang a duet in the second act called "Rock-n-Roll Party Queen"

I loved that show.

Ok Guys and Gals... This is really happening.

Tonight as I was putting together my packet that I'm sending to Mr. Tim Holst at Ringling Bro's. Barnum & Bailey, it actually hit me... Oh my goodness I'm really doing this.

I'm scared out of my mind. This is a shot at possibly getting out of this small town I'm in. ... However it could just be nothing... I'd send it off and never hear a response.

I'm scared that I won't hear back. I'm scared that I will hear back. I'm scared but I'm excited all at the same time... However I'm scared about getting too excited incase I'm let down.

Oh well... He're goes. Here's a look at everything before it went into the packet.

http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e282/theatreguymac/Clowning/DSCN5507.jpg

I've got a folder with my three page resume (mostly theatrical, etc), A hand written 2 page letter to Mr. Holst, My audition DVD, and 8 pages of labled glossy pictures of me IN and out of clown, other characters, and theatre roles. all attatched to cardstock.

The shipping envelope is labled and ready...

I'm taking it into the post office tomorrow to have it weighed for postage, then its on its way to Vienna, Virginia.

Keep your fingers crossed.

Shoot... I knew I forgot something... I didn't put a single business card in that packet... Darn.

Oh well... Its been mailed. I took it to the post office and had it weighed. It took at whole $3.04 to send it to Virginia. Funny thing is that the lady standing in front of me saw the address on the packet and said "Ringling Bros... Are you applying?" I could honestly with a big smile on my face say, "Yes, I'm sending in an audition dvd and resume to be considered for the Greatest Show on Earth Clown Alley."

Well... I'm through stressing over it... Whats done is done. No turning back now.
