I am having a tough time finding the right music for my show "Scared Silly" and I know a lot of you clowns have music experience so I thought I would ask for some suggestions.
I'm looking for something classic from the 1930s or earlier. Something that lasts about 3-4 minutes and preferably doesn't have any lyrics (or a lyricless version is available). It should have the feel of a hobo act or a sort of depression era feel without being depressing. It may be a tall order but any suggestions would be welcomed!

Solace By Scott Joplin.

I first heard in on "The Sting" soundtrack and love that rendition of it. It is a bit slower and mellower then this one. I think it is just what you are looking for.

try the "music bakery" or sounddogs.com... it's all royalty free music. Yes, much of it sounds dull .. but if you search through it you can find some gems and you'll have a piece of music that, chances are, no one else is using....

This is a list of some of the songs on my Classic Creepies album... maybe a little older than you were looking, but you never know, Berlioz and Mussorgsky are pretty late as far as classical music goes....
March to the Scaffold, Symphonie Fantastique, Hector Berlioz
The Witches Sabbath, Symphonie Fantastique, Hector Berlioz
Night on a Bare Mountain, Modest Mussorgsky
Uranus, The Planets, Gustav Holst
Finale, the Firebird, Igor Stravinsky
Scherzo, Death and the Maiden, Franz Schubert
Caprice No. 24, Niccolo Paganini
Toccata and Fugue in D minor, J.S. Bach
The Storm, Peter Grimes, Benjamin Britten
The Hut on Fowl's Legs, Pictures at an Exhibition, Modest Mussorgsky
Last weekend I heard a live performance by Reginald Robinson, who plays phenominal original ragtime compositions:

I think Solace by Joplin would be great too... Funilly enough before I saw snugglesnort's response, I immediately thought of something with a minor key feel by Joplin...
Eeeee with that in mind and the sad passing of Paul Newman... I wanna see the Sting again.. Made perfect by Joplin's soundtrack...
Listening to this as I write almost makes me want to write a routine just for the fun of it!

Thanks Tim! That reminds me of another great performer and composer of ragtime and original ragtime pieces. www.bobmilne.com (http://www.bobmilne.com) I have seen him in person a couple of times and I have one of his CDs.

We ended up doing the piece without music and man it needed music. We just couldn't find the right song for it. I have the performance on video though and the silence is deafening. I wont do another show without music!
This was on Pat Cashin's blog recently and made me think of this thread:
