View Full Version : I just got my first juggling balls!
Perry Noia 10-14-2008, 06:41 PM ok, so I'm officially trying this... I got a set of 3 cirque du soliel balls and I'm doing my best with the instructions in the box. I'm not the most coordinated of people so this is a bit of a tough thing for me. I'm still working on one ball for now and I may be there for a while until I can actually do that without dropping it for a while.
So far I just need to work on keeping it in front of me and not going across the room. I tried two for a bit and decided that's not a great idea right now.
Mamma Maple 10-14-2008, 08:49 PM If you need more...I make juggling beanbags. They come in a variety of colors (any fabric I can get that works) and sizes as well as fabric types (cotton, canvas, denim, dance fabric, metallic stretch). They come in a set of 3 for $8. Plus I'll ship anywhere for cost (continental US is about $3 for shipping, not sure on international prices). Oh and they're stuffed with bird seed so not harmful to the environment if they break open (only happened to one that Gummy threw against a concrete wall one too many times).
Check out theWJF.com (http://www.thewjf.com/) and Jason Garfield's video. That's how Gummy learned 2 years ago. Wildcat Jugglers - Tutorial (http://homepage.mac.com/abramr/juggling/tutorial/category/index.html) They have some good videos here too.
Good luck. I still struggle with 3. I can make them I just can't juggle them.
Also look in your community for a juggling club. Ours is really good. i have an order of 9 balls for our "leader". Have to have them made by Saturday.
Prestige 10-15-2008, 06:21 AM I quite like juggling with round beanies too, it's alot nicer to start off with something less hard to handle :) But good luck with it xxx
Perry Noia 10-15-2008, 06:35 AM well, these are kind of like beanbags actually.... They are kind of rubbery and stretchy fabric on the outside filled with some kind of small bean or bead or rice?

I like them actually and this may actually get some practice since it's a relatively quiet thing to do, I can practice while the kids are sleeping without too much worry of waking them.
Darrell 10-15-2008, 07:14 AM Learning to juggle is a lot of work but well worth it when you are able to reach your goals. Expect plenty of drops. And try to get a little better every day. Very soon you will be juggling like a pro! Good luck
Ichabod 10-15-2008, 07:49 AM My mom, believe it or not, wanted to learn how to juggle. However, she was convinced that she would never be able to juggle bags, so she tried something a little less "conventional." She is juggling the devil sticks and doing pretty well at them, actually.
Mamma Maple 10-15-2008, 08:27 AM Yeah they're a stretch polymer fabric ($25 a yard/meter). I REALLY want some of it but the only place I know to get it you have to buy at least 8 yards (online specialty fabric shop). I don't have $200 for beanbag fabric. And they're probably full of birdseed. That's what most of the pro's use as it's uniform in size and quite inexpensive. They look nice tho and (at least the one's I've seen) have a great feel. But watch the seams. I've seen some brand new bags rip right open after only a short time. Reason why all mine are double stitched and seam glued. Makes them less likely to rip.
But enjoy Noia.
Perry Noia 10-15-2008, 09:22 AM thanks for the tip... I can sew them back if they split and maybe I'll put some seam glue on them now just in case ;)
Governor of Florida in 1682 10-15-2008, 10:09 AM I am up to being able to watch someone juggle without getting too dizzy to stand.:D
Perry Noia 10-15-2008, 11:39 AM I can do two balls!!!!!!
And actually catch them more than half the time! It's only taken me about 2.5 hours of practice yesterday and today....
Lolly Plop 10-19-2008, 11:15 PM To avoid chasing the balls/bags all over the room, stand in front of a couch to practice. Even better if there is a wall behind the couch. This will automatically condition you from throwing balls out of your reach.
Perry Noia 10-20-2008, 12:33 PM I've been practising over the couch actually, but I end up throwing them past the end and they end up under the end table :(
I'm still stuck on 2 balls right now, but it's getting better.
Gummy the Clown 10-23-2008, 06:52 AM Hi Noia just remember to keep your elbows by your side when you make your throws because when they come up from your sides is the reason that the balls are going away from you.
SCOOP 10-25-2008, 07:52 PM juggling is a blast once you learn you'll want to try all the different patterns
Perry Noia 11-18-2008, 08:37 AM I got my first 1,2,3 a couple of times!! I dropped the 1 on the next set every time, but it's a start! I was doing really well with my 2 balls today and decided to add the third today... it went a lot better than I thought it would. Need a break now though getting tired of chasing them for a little while.
YAY me!
stephster-noodle 11-30-2008, 04:56 PM i bought 3 squisy balls from the dollar store by my house they are not juggling balls but i'm not a juggler yet so they suit me i have been working on it for a few days and sometimes i can juggle and catch all three balls. but anyway i watched juggling video on youtube and i think they help too if you havent allready checked it out but i came acroos this one video and it said "don't worry about catching the third ball its all bout getting them up there when your learning" and because i feel like showing you how far i have come in the last couple of days here is a picture of my skills so far. lolhttp://i368.photobucket.com/albums/oo124/stephsternoodle/CIMG1670.jpg
