As far as wigs go, you should wear what you feel is 'right' for your clown. Some clowns don't even wear wigs! *gasp* Can you imagine that?? Just do a little research and look at ALOT of clown pictures and you'll find something that fits you. Then after a few shows you'll find something you like better hahaha. As far as clowns saying they wear one wig for a show and others for competitions, here's the explanation. Clowns who 'compete' typically have shoes, costumes, wigs, props that they use only for competitions. So's they don't get worn out or damaged. I don't recall which clown told me this but she was in a competition and wore her 'working' clown shoes. The clowns near her spotted it right off.. Oh a working clown huh? They could tell from the bottoms of her clown shoes that she'd 'walked' around in them. I'm sure the same goes for wigs. Maybe that partially explains why I did so poorly the first and last time I competed! :D Axe 11-04-2008, 02:01 PM Really? Wow. Maybe that partially explains why I did so poorly the first and last time I competed! :D Pickles? Do poorly? I don't think that's possible!!! Scruffy 11-04-2008, 03:12 PM I never wear a wig. Which is also the reason I have no interest in competing. Any way. A common rule of thumb is that your hair and what ever in below you head, (E.g. Tie, blouse, coat.) should be different colors. It supposedly keeps your head from looking like it is floating. Pickles 11-04-2008, 03:22 PM Pickles? Do poorly? I don't think that's possible!!! Well, I did a kinda off-the-wall solo skit where I was shooting rubber chickens with a wooden cork gun, (while singing the song "Three Rubber Chickens") and I don't think the judges "got" it. Consequently, my marks were not very high. Pedalstheclown 11-04-2008, 03:58 PM LOL. Yes, I am one of those clowns. I do not wear a wig; haven't found the right one... either they annoy my ears or they fall forward and my face is hidden. Yes, I must say I am a working clown---working for laughter. I do not judge other clowns based on their wig or no wig look. (Sorry, I try not to "judge" anyway but you have to admit that without proper training in makeup and attire some clowns for a lack of better words...just do not get it.) [hops off soap box] Is is venting day yet? mr. kellygnc 11-04-2008, 03:58 PM well they were talking about color when they said they have different wigs but is there a better brand that is better than others or better kinds of hair?:???: Axe 11-04-2008, 04:04 PM Yep, Most clowns can't afford the nice stuff and go with the artificial wigs. I think yak hair wigs are the cadillac. I don't own one so I wouldn't know. But that's what 'they' say and I always listen to 'them'. http://www.proclownwigs.com/yak_wigs.htm There's a website with the yak wigs. mr. kellygnc 11-04-2008, 04:19 PM What kind of wig do you have? Where did you get yours? saphireSue 03-10-2009, 09:05 PM couldn't find one of the wig post about changing wig colors but i thought I'd share my recent experience with you all. I perform regularly at a specific resturant, Sally weres a yellow wig, the cut and curls are different from most I've seen and I've not been able to find another one, it has developed a knotted area, I don't like. So I pulled out a red long curly I bought several years ago when I was considering changing her looks, but never did, I've worn it the last two resturant gigs, and most of these people are there from week to week, whither you think this is good or bad, only comment I had was "Your hair has gotten longer" no mention of it's changed colors and I like your hat, my current cowboy hat, is one that came out for St. Patricks day. A. C. 03-13-2009, 06:37 PM I like to coorinate my wig with attire. I do a victorian clown with a red outfit and trimming in dark yellow, the wig that goes with this is yellow yak hair and a bald top. My auguste pants are half blue and half red with yellow trim, shirt is white, vest is yellow with blue an red trim, the wig is red. I like to stay color coordinated. katriniac 03-15-2009, 08:47 PM well they were talking about color when they said they have different wigs but is there a better brand that is better than others or better kinds of hair? The two major commercial brands you'll find are Lacey and West Bay/Sepia. With straight wig styles, the West Bay/Sepia brand will last longer than the Lacey brand. Maybe the loose-curl ones, too (like the Circus Circus and Wet Look styles). With most home-made wigs (especially the yak ones from Pro Clown Wigs), you will find that the hand-sewing is really nice and secure and will ensure that you won't be pulling clumps out after a year or two. Lacey does make a hand-sewn yak wig, but they don't customize it like Pro Clown does. ----------------- And while I'm no fan of "clown rules", I would recommend that the color you use for your wig should NOT be the same color as what's right around your neck and shoulders. For example, if you had a red collar and a red wig, it would just be too much red surrounding your head -- it's good to have a contrasting color to bring attention to your face. For your wig, try using a color that is just an accent color that appears just a little bit elsewhere in your costume -- it's a nice to tie everything in. Hope this helps! :o |
