Ok so Sara/bubblesandgiggles keeps talking about wanting to order elf ears for our elf characters...

Until now I've always let my hair/hat cover my ears when elfing...

Tonight I remembered an old set of rubber elf ears that I had from many moons ago. These ears were horrible full rubber ears that were a pain to get on and when you did get them on you couldn't hear anything because they covered the entire ear...

Finally it dawned on me to trim them down and make my own ear tips... (beats buying new ear tips and deciding that I hate them)

they are neat but I still feel that they need a bit of work. I glued them on with kryolan spirit gum, then went over the seams with licquid laytex. after that dried I went over the ears with my flesh colored foundation. I added a bit of blush to my cheeks and to the tips of the ears. then I put on my elf nose.

I'm still not quite used to them... what do you think? They are still growing on me.

I LOVE it!! The nose is great too. Makes me REALLY REALLY wanna be an elf.

I think they look great. I love mine. I do the same but have a bit of hair that comes down to hide the blend. I love wearing them when I am just shopping and see if anyone notices.

I think yours are fine. You will be the only one who notices any seams or whatever. Just like your nose...you will sell it. They will believe because they sant to.

Well I definately love the nose... Thanks again for sending it to me Coco... ... I have a line prepared incase someone says something about it not being real... I'm going to tell everyone that it is an "Official North Pole Issued Nose Warmer" I don't know about the ears... I'm still wearing them now. I'm trying to get used to them.

Good idea Mr. D. I just got some today and decided the ears were definitely a waste of money, but this is a great idea. THANKS!!

Pickles... I think you would make a really cute elf!

Thanks, Dazz. And I don't really need ear tips, since I was lucky enough to be born with naturally pointy ears.

If you are worried about the nose then; do it right. use nose putty, it's a messy pain. But when made up, pretty undetectable. You might see if special fx makes a elfish nose.
You need to do something with the hair. like maybe a spray of hair glitter, just to give it some sparkle.

Christopher Clown

Thanks Sue...

Pickles... What a blessing... Naturally pointy ears... and naturally grinchy green.

Scruffy... yes I know I need a bit more sparkle... I was thinking a bit of glitter on the cheecks and a hint of shimmery eye shadow or something...

Great look for you Dazz. I love the nose. Some sparkle spray on the hair would be great and maybe a little sparkle on the cheeks. I love the way you through yourself into everything you do. Have you ever thought of making pies......Ha

are yours the full ear Nettie?

Yes, they are ... well, at least they USED to be. They're only tips now, thanks to your good idea.

... and Pickles ... I wanna see your ears. I bet you're joking.

No, they really are pointy, Nettiebelle. Dan and the girls used to touch the tips of my ears and then pretend that they'd cut their fingers on them.

Oh, come on .... you're joking. Do your daughters have elf ears too? I know my kids have perfect ears, but they all have what we call "chain saw butts" ... they have FLAT BUTTS! Like someone took a chain saw and sawed off their butts! But they have PERFECT ears. No points.

I got some ears and a nose at Costumzee........they're pretty cool. As for my own ears, they're just regular ears. WOW......I wish I had ears like Pickles. Pointed ears are so cool at this time of the year or if you're going to a Star Trek convention. What kind of q-tip do use to clean those guys out?

I did a google search for pointed elf ears... Believe it or not there are actually people who have surgery to have their ears pointed... really gross detailed pictures of pointed ears with stiches then after shots with really nifty ears and jewlery. Not sure I'd want to spend that kind of cash to have it done though... imagine just how many pairs of tips you could buy for that kind of cash.

Punkin... I'd love to see pics of you in your ears and nose... as for anyone else with elf attire or elf ears, please post your pictures here... I'd love to see them... Show off those ears... Jingle a few bells! The holidays are here people!

It was actually me who brought the butts into this thread ... Pickles is innocent this time. She kept it on ears, and I put it in the gutter ... or shall I say BUTT-er. Sorry sorry sorry.

I'm ALMOST glad I don't have pointy ears (though it'd make halloween easier). I've an elven face, complete with slightly slanted almond-shaped eyes. When I had my old ear tips on, it really freaked people out how naturally elven they made me look.

Not sure I'd be safe around D&D crowds if I looked like that all day. ^.^

I like your Elf Mr. Dazzle, and I do think, like Scruffy said if you add a little sparkle, maybe even some green removable hair color, you would look "Elf made"....lol I actually have an old pair of Elf ears, hmmmmm....

I guess we all have different views of elves...

I've seen elves with mime like faces... there was a christmas comercial on one year for a Mall in Nashville... every elf was in the same outfit but with mime faces with different swirly eye designs etc.

I've seen Clowny Elves like Duckie's "Twinkle" elf full clown face, wig, and elf clothing.

I've seen Christmas Clowns... Clowns that are clearly clowns just dressed for Christmas

I've heard where some people think elves should be soild green from head to toe.

My vision of my elf character has been inspired by the Santa Claus Movies (With Tim Allen) The elves in that movie all had normal faces, pink cheeks, pointy ears, maybe some sparkle around the eyes and cheeks.

Their Outfits made them unique and each one was different. Different hats, scarves, jackets, sweaters, vests, knickers, pants, skirts, shorts, socks, ... all different.

Thats what inspired my look and costume the most.

For those of you who do elves/christmas clowns... where did you find inspiration?

Butterscotch
11-29-2008, 12:18 PM
Mr. Dazzle, I have to say that you have some great ideas and great looking characters, so keep up the inspiration. I also have done many characters, I have a genie character, (along with my pirate) and a fairy character similar to Tinkerbelle. I've done a safari character, a golf character and a jester character. I tried the elf clown character also, but my ears just weren't nice looking, especially when one of my clown friends said they looked too 'scary". So now that I've seen your ideas, I think I will try again...

The Christmas Parade I was in was tonight. We had a blast. I was on the very last float with Santa and Mrs. Claus. The company I was with was Miller and Miller Auctioning. They had a huge semi pulled Goosenecked Trailer with a cottage located on the front (which housed all the equipment for shooting off fireworks), many trees, lit packages, beautiful archways, lited snowmen, elves, candy canes, trains, etc filled the float. A sleigh pulled by a team of flying wire lit reindeer, a snow machine, Music Blasting and four other Walking Characters (Two Snowmen, a Rudolph, and a Penguin) The Float one first place. It was really beautiful.
For the most part Mrs. Claus sat in the sleigh, Santa Stood to the right of the sleigh and I stood to the left. We had a blast... but then Mrs. Claus got up and started dancing... we were all dancing and waving, I even blew a few kisses, we really had a blast.

Sadly I forgot to send my Camera with my mother so I currently don't have any pics of the float.

I just have pics of me after I got home. Most of the glitter had fallen out of the front part of my hair... but I did have it for most of night. It looked nice.

So What do you all think of Ole Ben??

Very CUTE, Mr. D ... of course why whouldn't you be ... every character you do, you do WELL. I love the elf look ...

Christopher Clown

the costume was simple too... The vest is my rainbow clown vest turned inside out since it was lined with red. The snowflake buttons on the vest were just pins I found in the jewelry department at Walmart.

The Red Knickers are just red scrub pants cut off and hemmed.

The Green shirt is just a solid long sleeved shirt from Old Navy

The Socks and Gloves came from Walmart Womens Section (gotta love Christmas Time)

The Scarf came from Old Navy but It is part of my normal wardrobe. I love it and I've had it for years.

The Hat is a Dollar Tree Hat that I bought several years ago. I believe they still have them this year though... I added more bells, the pokadot trim, and the penguin pin

THe Pokadot trim on the pants legs, shirt sleeves, and hat is just some wired ribbon that I found at walmart. Its velcroed in strategic places so I cam remove it to make washings easy.

I loved the pokadot because it features light and dark green pokadots. I felt that this helped tie in the different shades of green that I was wearing since my Green shirt, Green hat, Green Scarf, and Green Striped Socks are all different shades of green.

My shoes are Candy Cane Striped Chuck Taylor Converse that i bought several years ago from a Shoe store called Journeys. I just tied three big jinglebells into the laces of each shoe for the parade. I also wear these shoes as part of my everyday holiday wardrobe so the bells are removeable

I accesorized with some christmas penguin pins and one big button that I made that says "I believe in Santa" I trimmed it out with star stickers, greenery, and some more bells.

I definately love the shoes, Mr. D!
And the glitter certainly finished off the look.
As for the ears, well, they are just fabulous!
I'd wear them, but it would mean having to lose pieces of jewellery that I never take out in fear of having to get re-pierced!

I, too, purchased a set of big ears. And I, too, wasted my money. Thanks so much for this great tip. I am hearing impaired anyway, so I need all the help I can get with the hearing part. Sometime I'd like to stick a little fake pear in each ear and hold a sign that says, "Hearing Impeared.." But not sure if it's pollitically correct. Well, anyway.... I'll be trimming off the big big ears. :)

Mr. D!

I LOVE that outfit! But I really love the way you made the whole thing from cheaper stuff! Proves you don't have to get a "designer" outfit if you have that creativity!!!! All of my outfits are like that except my Christmas Character. And the only reason that one is different is because it was kind of a gift to me from me.

I applaude your ingenuity!!! Great job! And the ears........oh wow......those ears are unreal! They look like they're actually your REAL ears!

i have to say I TOTALLY love the nose... I have the ears.. and tell the kids the reason why some of the elf's have pointed ears is because they are bad.... and we get them because when we get in trouble the older elves pulls us by our ears..

Where did you get the elf nose?
