I am working on a coloring page for Sir Toony. Since I have never created one before, I would like to know what people think. I have a copy on my website

Sir Toony Van Dukes - Pictures (http://www.sirtoonyvandukes.com/coloring.html)

Thanks

I'm assuming you're going to put your phone number on there, right? (you probably didn't want to include it on the drawing that you posted, because you figured that all of your insane clown friends would start calling you at 3 a.m. just to find out how you made that balloon porcupine... and you're probably right.)

I think it looks like you, Toony. One thing I would do, and I think I recommend this to somebody else, is put some kind of design in the background so you don't have so much white space.

looks good, looks like you.

I like it, but (and I could be wrong) it doesn't look like you're smiling? it looks more like a surprised expression or something to me? Just a thought, not a criticism.... and yes, add your phone number and website on there... never know how long it might stay up on someone's fridge.

I will add contact info to the finished page. I also will add some balloons or something in the background. I want to get the picture right first. I made the image by doing a vector-based tracking of an actual photo. I wasn't sure if I simplified the image too much.

I like the letters because you can color them! *loves to color*

I think the balloons in the background are a good idea too.

It really looks like you! Great job!

I don't know how the others do it, but I used PhotoShop to trace the outlines of a real photo. It took a some time and effort to get it looking good. I think I have heard some suggestions of using tracing paper and scan in the resulting outline. I don't know if there is a service available that will do it for you.

there are people who make colouring pages professionally, but it costs a lot of money. I just drew mine... I found that I had to leave out several details or else it started to look scary to me (and I am by no means a scary looking clown)... just too many lines doesn't look right. You kind of have to simplify your look. I also did one for Sassy Frass, it's posted in my albums.

When I used to draw caricatures at Sesame Place Theme Park, we had to stick to the five minute range in order to get the line moving. One thing I learned from this experience, is to spot the "distictive trademark" or signature signs of facial features. "What's the most important detail that stands out as a unique trait" is the first assessment from a caricaturist.

So, applying this intent, I would say that your coloring page defines you well in the few simplified lines that you have.

If I were drawing your page, I would:

1. definitely add your crescent shaped eyelids. It will "echo" the arch in your clown brows.
2. Also, you have dark eyelash areas, so I would make the eyelid line a little thicker (where your eyelashes are)
3. and you could color your eyes in dark so that they don't look so "hollow." I know that you are trying to keep all spaces open for coloring, but it isn;t necessary to have everything open.
4. A smile expression would be nice or simply add happy smiley faces to the balloons in the background. Maybe add some flowing confetti around the balloons too to give the picture some movement.

If you need more help, PM me. I'll keep my drawing board warm for ya.

I hope to have time in the coming weeks to resume work on my page. I am trying to create a new website for my clown alley and for Sir Toony Van Dukes. I apreciate the suggestions.

OK it took a little longer than I expected, but I have updated my coloring page. I am beginning to think that tracking a picture may not have been the most effective approach. It still doesn't look as natural as I would like.

I met a very talented character artist at a fund raising event in January who did my clown coloring page. It really does look like Gumball! I made copies and pass it out to the children at the hospital I visit. They seem to love it!

I contacted him to see if he would be interested and willing to do pages for others and find out what he would charge. He said he would do it for around $15.00. He would make a drawing from a picture, scan it and email it in jpg format for printing.

If anyone is interested, please PM me for his email address.
( I have no connection to this artist besides the fact that I love the drawing he made for me! I wanted to share this info in case anyone else is like me and is not talented in the coloring book page drawing. Plus, I think his price is very reasonable.)

photoshop isn't the program that i would have used. it is a bitmap based program so even your vectors are going to be pixelated when you export to jpg. I used Illustrator and used the pen tool to create my coloring page from a photo. My avatar is actually my page and has just been colored in. but with illustrator you can save it as a PDF and the quality is much better.

I think the mouse is my biggest problem... It just isn't the right input device for that type of drawing. I will see when I have the time to give it another try. I think the body and background are fine, but the face could use something... Maybe it is the fact none of the lines go thin, to thick, to thin...

toony, i would recommend using the pen tool even photoshop has it.. its much easier to use the mouse with and makes very smooth lines. it may be kinda confusing at first but go to youtube and watch a tutorial on it and it will be much easier.

That looks great. ^^ He looks very happy--hopefully a mischievous clown won't pop the balloons behind his head, since they might be water balloons. ^^

There are many artist out there that specialize in color me pages. Their work is faaabuuuuuulous. I can personally recommend ANGEL CONTRERAS Welcome to the Art 4 Clowns Website! (http://art4clowns.com/)
You can also use one of the many sites to cartoon yourself. Face Book has one.
